Hey team,

My buddy asked me to play some 10 minutes worth of keyboard at his wedding. No problem, I says. Now the wedding is Saturday, and he's telling me he needs half an hour. Yikes.

Any good wedding song suggestions that I can learn on short notice? I'm just playing before the ceremony, and for the bridesmaids walking down the aisle (not the bride). I've stuck to pop love songs, because they are easier to learn by ear and memorize. This is what I've got so far:

Beatles: Don't Let Me Down
Clapton: Wonderful Tonight
Coldplay: Til Kingdom Come
Van Morrison: Have I told you Lately
Armstrong: What a Wonderful World

(Also playing theme song from Rome and Juliet for the signing of register.)

Any suggestions? Either for pop songs similar to the above, or something classical for the bridesmaids (a lot of what sounds fantastic on classical guitar or in a string quartet doesn't seem to work as well on piano).

Cheers....

(Me and the Mrs first dance)

Another good one that would translate well to only piano.

Of course both are pretty obscure.

Guess who is addicted to "First Wave" on Sirius XM?

look into Jim Brickman. My wife really digs that kind of stuff, and it's piano-strong

Pretenders - I'll Stand by You

I think the music on both is both strong enough that the listener can pick up the melody without vocals.

Went to a wedding this summer and at one point (i think when they were signing the wedding register?) the pianist played a very slow version of just the way you are by bruno mars that was very well done

Not everyones bag, not sure if cliche and not sure how hard it is to learn :noidea:

Good luck dacks

Nice list. Really like the song in bold.

There's an artist named Gabriel Mann who I know that has a great piano-based song called "Fire in Your Hand." Pretty mellow, but positive. It has a pretty simple chord structure if you want to check it out. I think sometimes songs like that (and Kingdom Come) for that matter are great for this kind of thing because you want to kind of be in the background for this kind of event anyway and if they don't know the song, they can't tell when you make mistakes. :)

Good luck!

Are you just playing solo piano? If so, you'll want to play things with a distinct melody, I'd think?

Anyways, my one suggestion might be Riders On The Storm - The Doors. It's not overly hard to pull off (bass line is pretty repetitive) and has a distinct melody that can be improvised on. The changes are fairly basic too so you're not having to learn a ton. If you have a Rhodes EP, or EP patch on your board, all the better.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I really liked the Pretenders song, and a Bruno Mars cover would have been great, but ultimately I added some light classical (Satie, Chopin, etc...) that actually goes pretty well with what I've got. I ended up putting a lot of time into the Van Morrison song (great solo, but I pretty much had to learn it by ear...) but I'm up to half an hour so it's all good.

Eloco, I think I'm going to play the Coldplay song for the bridesmaids entrance. It's got a nice rhythm to it.

I had a nice cover of "Hey Ho" all lined up, but it didn't fit with the rest unfortunately.

LOL, my brother plays saxophone. As lifeguard we'd put on a little show at the end of the year and get him to guest star on our Dave Matthews Band covers...
