Boredom Savant
I have an Acer Aspire 5515 and every time I've tried to start it up, it keeps shutting off midway through. Any advice?
If you're starting it up cold I doubt heat issues would shut it down so quickly. Does it boot up in safe mode? (Hit F8 during boot to get the menu to select safe mode). If it doesn't boot up in safe mode, it's most likely a hardware component failure.

for preventative maintenance...

(free, of course)
be sure to do the registry cleaner and say "yes" when they ask if you want to back up changes to the registry
keep an eye on it though. it could be a hardware issue too.... like a connection coming loose internally. Acers aren't know for their rigidity, and if you carry it around a lot, like room to room, not in a bag, etc., all that flex over time can cause hard drive connectors, memory connections, etc., to loosen, which will cause failures.
Simple fixes on that though. (most people have the VERY bad habit of moving their computer to a different room/spot, with the screen open, holding only one corner. Bad idea.)
Blow all the dust out as said, and if you are not scared of messing with it, make sure your connections are good.

I must admit I do that all the time.

That thing is pretty good at deleting all the pr0n off your hard drive.
Go all Office Space on that piece of shit
just blow all the shit out of all the possible orifices. (do this outside)
