We had one hellacious storm rip us to shreds yesterday. More than half a million homes without power, tractor-trailers blown off the road, 25 people trapped inside their cars by downed power lines for more than six hours... Wind gusts over 80 and baseball sized hail.

Takes a lot to freak me out. I was freaked out. One of my neighbors had a tree remove the front part of their garage and squash their Jeep.

We just got power back after 36 hours. Just long enough to waste everything in the fridge and freezer. Except the steaks and chicken. I grilled like 6 pounds of meat last night. MMMMMM.

So, did I miss anything? Rick Nash been traded yet?

Good to hear man. Had some nasty stuff here as well, but the worst was up in the Fort Wayne area. Had another cell at about 5am today, and I slept with my flashlight...I may or may not be petrified of the dark.

I wasn't sure where you were in relation to the path of it. It rushed right through northeast Columbus where I live. I've never seen anything like it.

I was at the bank and you could see it coming, they said on the radio it was hitting Dublin, OH like 20 miles away (and it was BAD). Drove the three miles back to my house and had to fight to get the garage door down. I disengaged the opener and was pushing it down and the hail was bouncing under the door. I just found out another one of my neighbors got hit by a tree. No, not they hit a tree. A tree hit them. On the freeway. A 15 foot section of a tree blew across the freeway and nailed 'em.

Zoinks.

I have family in the area...prrrrobably should text her. I'm so unfamiliar with these nasty type storms. Hoosiers see tornadoes as just a part of life...I think there's few things scarier. I heard that it's being classified as a land hurricane? There's some term for it. Der...dereboro...der something or other. All I know is we were lucky in Anderson. So blessed to have power still.

Glad to hear you all are ok, and I'm available all week to help eat those burgers and chicken........so they don't spoil. anything to help out a friend. On a different note, the wild fires in Colorado have me worried for SF. Lets all wish the best for those folks and hope our friend here is safe and hopefully didn't lose his home.

I have a buddy who's daughter is at the Air Force Academy. Last I heard they have not evacuated yet. That's crazy.

Oh, and the sirens just went off here again. Another wild one coming through in the next half hour.

Yay me.

Are any of the science-y types here into meteorological science?

Because:
june-29-2012-severe-storms-26

This was snapped just before the big storm Friday.

I saw these same cloud formations just prior to yesterday's gully-washer. I've never seen anything like them.

I am calling them Mayan-nimbus clouds. They are clearly not normal. WTF?

Were you afraid, were you petrified?

Massive storms though this area Friday night. I really lucked out, we had our power blink but it never went out. A lot of my co-workers, family, and friends are still without power. Someone I work with has been told they hope to have his power back on by Friday.

My mother's is still out and being taunted because the other side of her street has power.

More of a silent "ahhh we are nice and cool in our air conditioned house eating fresh and cool food from our powered refrigerator" while my madre bakes in a 92 degree (last night around 10) house. My brother is not far from her and he has power, so she has options if it gets too much for her.

I think its the beginning of a Stay Puft marshmallow man being formed.

I tried to think of the most harmless thing. Something that I loved from my childhood. Something that would never ever possibly destroy us. Mr. Stay-Puft.
