He's had a couple of recent surgeries and a couple of scares, but Steve is still alive and well.

I used to agree with that...but I'm not so sure anymore...who knows whats going through anyone's mind at anytime....the pain that they might be going through...where they feel, in thier mind, that there is no other way out...a cancer patient may feel that the pain is so intense that all they want is death to stop the pain....is that selfish?....a mentally ill person may very well feel the same way in their own mind....don't be so quick to judge...

That is unlikely, but in that event I would call it sacrafice not suicide.

There's this thing called depression. It sucks. If you don't have it, don't expect to understand why so many of us have tried to put ourselves in the ground early.

Do keep in mind that Japan has a history of ritual suicide (seppuku). While I find it highly unlikely that Irabu killed himself to avoid falling into enemy hands, it is certainly a possibility that he killed himself out of shame. I'm not saying that's why he did it or that I feel that it's an acceptable reason for suicide (it's really an escape from shame when paying restitution and living with the shame would be a more honorable act to me), just as a potential reason why he might have justified it.

Of course it's also possible that he overdosed, or died in some way that looks suicidal but was not. We'll have to wait for the coroner to know for sure.
