So, Phil Mickelson is arrived very late at Merion last night because he had to attend his daughter's 8th grade graduation. I had a co-worker last week who went to her granddaughter's pre-school graduation.

Anyone else attend any extra "graduations" this season? When did we start doing all this? Is Hallmark behind this?

Honestly, pre-school graduation? Great job reading and coloring! Seems excessive. Do they have a keynote speaker?

High school makes sense - it's the completion of your primary education and a new phase of life. (And honestly, even at high school graduation I was thinking 'wow, congrats on showing up most of the time and not being completely fucking stupid, you've graduated high school!') All these other ones should just be the end of the school year. Changing buildings is not a life event from 8th to 9th grade.

I think it could be cute for like lite kids once, 6th grade or something but I don't know. I don't remember any when I was growing up and being made into the man I am by Fairfax County Public Schools.

*I also think that we listen to the same show on our rides to work.

Oldest daughter had a pre-school grad then a fifth grade grad, then an eighth grade grad, and last year high school grad. My twins seem like they have a ceremony almost every year they are in 4th grade now.

i think i had kindergarten, 5th grade, and 8th grade in addition to HS and college.. really by the time the one to be really proud of comes around your pretty sick of graduating so it's pretty lame.

i also don't get extended families going.. my coworker has been to like 5 niece/nephew graduations in the past couple weeks.. HS, MS, doesn't matter.

i felt like i was wasting my immediate family's time, extended is just outrageous.

Haha. Did the Junks talk about this? I walk 5 mins and take the Metro 5 mins to work these days, so I rarely hear the Junkies. I try to listen to the podcast at home, but I'm not a regular listener anymore. :(

I didn't want to go when I got hooded but my parents were into it. They had an open bar and top shelf stuff though, so that was nice. Gowns were like $1000 though.

I forgot about the gowns. God do they get you. The people that price those things are geniuses. It's always like $115 to rent and $140 to buy. They find that perfect spot where you are like, "well, fuck it, I may as well buy the damn thing so I can store it in my closet for the rest of my life." They should start a National Gown Day so people can wear their robes once a year - get some use from them.

Wow, Awaz really does have like $1000 invested in robes.

I hope to graduate high school some day.

I've never, ever understood 8th grade graduation. In PA it was a non-event. In the midwest, you have parties. FOR FINISHING THE 8TH GRADE?! Pre-K or Kindergarten is fine just because it's cute. I had a Kindergarten, and it was just an excuse to give us paper hats and have us dress up at the end of the year.

HOODS ARE THAT EXPENSIVE? Thanks grad school...another additional cost to consider. I kept my undergrad gown...add the hood and it's all I'll need.

Even if you're family I'm not showing up to anything less than a HS graduation.

And these days, graduating HS doesn't mean jack shit. Getting a masters is the new graduating HS in this economy.
