Anybody else seen this thing. You can search a word and see how prevalent it's usage is in books over time. I find it VERY interesting...

Google Ngram Viewer

For example, bombastic has been used with similar frequency for the last 200 years. But awesome is a 20th century word that exploded from the 1960s to 1980s and has now leveled off.

And yes... you can put in dirty words. :eyebrows: Fuck apparently was used in the 1800-1820s and dropped out of sight until the last 50 years.

rim job - Had some success in the 50's; disappeared altogether in the 60's; came on like gang-busters to start the 70's and has been climbing ever since.

Snork was very popular during the 1890's and around 2000.

Completely unrelated, the word "Ugly" was in steady use but started to sharply rise around 2000 as well.

A word known as "the" has apparently made up about 5% of all words in books since 1800. You'd think they'd come up with something different, THE lazy bastards.

Haberdasher hasn't been relevant since 1621.

Tough break.

Yet it made its way into a Family Guy episode:

Lawyer: Mr Griffin, which of the following two phrases best describes Brian Griffin: Problem Drinker or African-American Haberdasher?
