Thought we could use this thread to capture coaching hires/fires, player transactions (trades, retirements etc) and general CFL news/notes.

Montreal canned Jeff Reinebold as defensive co-ordinator and hred Noel Thorpe from the University of Montreal Carabins of the CFL to take the role of DC.

Also, Ti-Cats DC Casey Creehan was let go and subsequently hired by the Blue Bombers. Did Winnipeg look at how bad the Hamilton defense was this season?

Bombers bring back Creehan to serve as defensive coordinator

I also wouldn't be surprised to see Kevin Glenn traded in the off-season by the Stamps. He wants to be a starter, but the Stamps have Drew and Bo Levi Mitchell (not to mention Canadian Brad Sinopoli) in the QB stable.

Glenn could probably fetch a nice return as well.

Travis Lulay has a clause in his contract for an NFL job but he has publicly stated (on radio) that he is playing in the CFL next year and would talk extension.

I doubt Lions will bring back Runako Reth (arland) ... Nick Moore really emerged late season

/and speaking of MS ... Lions are very high on Courtney Taylor as a deep threat (he'd be in the NFL were it not for the MS diagnosis) so maybe we see less Geroy next year

It's gotta be tough for Canadian college QB's (isn't Kyle Quinlan on the Als protected list?), but I think most guys know the reality that they will likely have to change positions if they want to actually see CFL game action. You know with the ratio that you have a good chance of finding a role somewhere on the team.

will the Lions dump Mitchell?

the rest of the dline which was so amazing and stacked in 2011 ... has shown holes in 2012 ... no where near as deep ... and old ... I think they might keep Mitchell if they cant find replacements

As I said in the NFL thread, I think Lulay is better than Sanchez...

/it would be an insult to Lulay to mention the other Jets QB

I cant see Buono dumping Geroy ... asking him for a paycut yes ... but outright duimping him?

that would be ruthless and heartless

Buono made the cryptic comment last week that sometimes name prestige counts for something extra

Yeah, Wally loves the veteran guys. The Leos need to get younger (and quicker) in the secondary though.

dont necessarily agree with this (at the least ... he is quick to see the expiration date) ... theres a long list of popular older players who fans thought could still contribute that Wally has cut instead (Clermont, Floyd, Alan Pitts for you dash) ... and those players have gone on to other teams and done virtually nothing

The secondary might end up being overhauled this offseason

I agree that Wally is quick in seeing the expiration date for players...Also, is Roy Shivers back working for Wally finding talent state-side? He sure has a good eye.

yup I think Shiv still runs the US pro tryout camps

/that dude has a fascinating history ... forget "7 degrees of Kevin Bacon" ... 2 degrees of Roy Shivers" is more interesting

Argos hire Als OC Marcus Brady to take the same role in Toronto. Re-united with head coach Milanovich.
