OT: but Philly related

Hey guys,

I just wanted to let you all know that I came through Philly last weekend and stopped at the Art Museum, which is one of the best in the world in my opinion, and there is a fantastic traveling exhibit of late Renoir works. I am not sure how long it will be there. I would assume at least through the holidays but if you get a chance I have to HIGHLY recommend it. I know that talking about impressionist art on a Flyers board may make the earth reverse it's axis, but I know that deep down inside some of you are cultured barbarians .

Anyway, just a heads up. Check it out if you are into that era of art.

i like art. it just makes me a little confused when a famous artist could make a painting that looks like nothing and sign his name on it and sell it was a ton. then a normal person could make the same painting and people would say it is horrible.

i would like to make a painting myself and have someone pose as an art expert. i will show it to them saying that a famous artist made it. obviously it would have to be their style although try to stay with me. tell them that it was rare or something and that nobody has ever seen it before and watch these experts try their best to say positive things about it and then tell them that i painted it and i am not an artist.

I'm quite partial to Manet myself. I enjoy his contrasting colors to demonstrate the contrasting themes in his works...

lol Believe it or not, son # 2 (the musician and artist) was down there today with his GF roaming around at the museum. When he gets in later I'll have to ask him if he had seen it and what his impression was.

I won't tell anyone about the other side of Flyers fans I swear.....ha ha

I am with you on the modern art crap. I usually walk right through it. I do like Dali and Adams but it is actual art. Calder's mobiles are kind of intriguing as well but for the most part, I jut skip that end of the wing (it is pretty small at the Philly museum).

I like impressionists so Manet' is a favorite. Renoir is not abstract at all and I think you might enjoy it. Claude Monet is my all time favorite, and Philly has a ton of his best work.

An awesome museum...I will be there in November for the marathon so I will be there again I am sure....

I am going to invite you to my annual banquet at Le Reux de Fascinaque in Paris this August. There I will be reading my finally mastered novel long poem on the cultural stylings of Pierre le Franque, an artist of the 18th century who eventually moved to what is modernly known as French Canada. The poem has a rhyme scheme of ABBCDEABDFCEF and contains both tertiary and secondary meaning. We will also have an auction on a recently discovered painting of a boy walking his dog. It was painted by Van Gogh. Be sure to RSVP ASAP for it it going to be very packed and we need to know how much trout will need to be sauteed.
