He won't likely be, he WILL be exposed no question. If I recall properly, the format for protecting players in an Expansion Draft are either 9F/5D/1G or 7F/3D/2G. In addition, they must expose 1D and 2F who have played either 40 games the season prior or 70 games over the last 2 seasons.

Now back in 2000, the last Expansion Draft when Minnesota and Columbus came into the league, there was no salary cap. Money was not an issue (in terms of who you picked) and teams did leave high dollar/low return guys exposed for the sole reason of getting them off their books.

Now that there is a cap, you can bet teams will look at this as an opportunity to lose players off their roster without compliance buyout and subsequent cap hit years, moving assets like draft picks or prospects or other roster players they didn't want to part with to get rid of a contract that is a liability. And considering an NMC/NTC isn't addressed as it stands to an Expansion Draft, I can't see GMs not taking advantage of that.

Brown fits that profile, and as the article stated Kopitar is primed to take over the leadership and C of this team. Brown has been here a long time and did his part prior to his massive suckage - and just like with Williams I'm thankful for that - but the window opened for a Brown departure about 2 years ago, and just like Williams I think the time has come for him to move on elsewhere.

Well put, it's the diminishing returns example, the Kings invested in Brown but other than the his PO performance during the Kings 1st run Brown has a been a waste of space (for what he is paid).

I have conflicting feelings about Brown. On the one hand he puts the team before himself and has sacrificed his body for this team. He has won with this team and grown with this team. He is a King and IMHO he should be remembered as a King no matter where he plays in the future. And speaking of the future, though I hate to see him go, I simply do not see his long term prospects as good.
This is the reason why I almost never get a jersey with a player's name on it. I root for the emblem on the front and not the name on the back. I only have two King' jerseys with names on them. One is Robitaille and the other is Gretzky.

I think Brown has done a tremendous job as a player in LA, but those days are gone. It was nice to see him drafted, developed, turn into a bonafide NHL power forward for some years and finally bring a Cup to LA. It's going to be one of the best stories ever to tell in Kings history forever.

However, his salary does not justify the intangibles he brings, there are tons of guys like that who get paid 80% less than he does. If this was precap I wouldn't care, but since it is it's a numbers game and everything needs to make sense financially.

Giving him that contract was a huge mistake, and I know I was very vocal about it a few years ago because I saw this train coming a mile away as well as some others, so now it needs to be dealt with. Expansion would be the best, cleanest, least damaging option were he to be picked up but even then that's a minimum of 2-3 years away which would leave 3-4 years left on the deal.

Too many other up and coming players will need deals and it simply cannot be done. As younger players moving on from second and bridge contracts need to be paid, the veterans who make big bucks must be moved especially if they are not producing.

He has done a lot in LA and I will always be thankful to everyone that helped bring the cups. His time is passed and he is hindering the team more then any other single item and it is the elephant that needs to be addressed. We all saw this coming almost as soon as he signed the deal and now its here. If he only cost 2m or something (even tho he isnt even worth that right now) I wouldn't have as much of a problem with him on the roster

I think that'll be changed. All the old expansion rules were in effect with no cap constraints, not the case now. This allows a team to hit tge cap floor and get a veteran player who can help them be competitive right off the bat and allows teams with players who have undesirable contracts a chance (no guarantee) they can move that salary.
