Yes I know... I listen to way too many different styles of music. But this is one of my favs. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy is coming to Mohegan Sun the end of December, cant wait for that show. I have a fascination with that era (20's/30's), the Swing revival of the 90's was friggin awesome. If you dig horns and shit I suggest checking these bands out.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
Royal Crown Revue
Brian Setzer
Squirrel Nut Zippers
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Cherry Poppin' Daddies

Definitely a good time out with the lady as well.

You might want to check out Colin James. wicked blues player when he wants to be, but he's done two or three big band albums too. also, he's a good Canadian kid.

I enjoyed Voodoo Daddy and Squirrel Nut a lot though I haven't listened to them for years. Listened to them a ton in the early 90s though.

I always considered Bosstones more ska but always kind of liked them, though not enough to listen to complete albums. Never really liked Setzer though I know a lot of people love him.

I would think Voodoo Daddy live would be a lot of fun. While not the same I type of music I saw Gogol Bordello last year and they have a bunch of instruments and a ton of energy and it was really cool.

Do I like swing? Well, dating myself again, I saw Benny Goodman, Sy Zentner and I attended the 1959 Playboy Jazz Festival and saw Bobby Darin, Mort Sahl and Stan Kenton. I've seen Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Brian Setzer.

BBVD is good stuff... I saw them in Newark (horrible city), and now they're playing a free show at Mohegan Sun, great show live.

I've got Count Basie's greatest hits on my iPod, so I guess you could say I like swing a little bit. I dance, too, which is what that music is best for. Swing and foxtrot are my favorites, and you can do them to the same music, so that's a nice little benefit. Perhaps I'll put my performance (mediocre though it was) on YouTube and let you see it, but that's very doubtful.

Thank you, D'stone. No mention of Basie or Glenn Miller in a thread about swing music would have been a sin.

Yes, Glenn Miller was also exceptional, though I regret to say that I have no Glenn Miller. As soon as I have money, I'll have to correct this.

I grew up in a household that always...always had swing or the big bands playing all day, every day and I loved every minute of it.

Hell....I still do.

I think Philly still has a decent Swing Revival scene...
