Don't know the rep of this beat reporter, but Lets hope he has the credibility of John Keim for us. Hard to be wildly enthusiastic about Barry but hope springs eternal. And we can't dismiss what We haven't even seen yet. Time enough for that next year :becky:

U know what the fact that everyone is bummed about this hire leads me to believe that this was a great hire by Gruden and you people would be cock riding this guy by the end of next season

Judson Richards, a post-game show host for the Chargers, also echoed what Gehlken said. You can hear his thoughts on Barry on today's slate of ESPN 980 podcasts. Keim also weighed in on Barry. He did say that one GM didn't think much of the hire. But someone from Detroit gave a positive review of Barry, explaining that he was saddled with garbage players, no thanks to Matt Millen. For the most part, from the small sample size that's commented on what Barry may bring to the Redskins, they've basically been pretty good. Let's hope that translates into results on the field.

What really ticked me off about Haslett was his backstabbing of Shanahan, in particular his view that Shanny supposedly "shackled" him from implementing an aggressive pass rush where Kerrigan and Orakpo would primarily be attacking the QB. Of course, when he did had full control over defense, we all saw how many times he put Kerrigan into pass coverage on obvious passing downs. This was eerily reminiscent of seasons past when he sent Kerrigan to cover people like LeSean McCoy on wheel routes on third-and-long plays. The results were predictable then, and they netted the same results when he put them in play last year.

Good effing riddance.

here are some numbers on the detroit roster

of the 26 main players on defense 16 were out of the NFL in 2 years

only a mere 4 were starters for more then 1 year in the NFL the 4 were cliff avril , cory redding , paris lenon and shaun cody in 08

so take it for what its worth

IM going to make a slightly predictive post here.

The team will give BArry more talent to work with on defense and especially in the secondary than Haslett ever had. So there should be no excuses for this defense to not be atleast average.

How ever, I expect the defense to finish in the bottom ten and the running "reason" that will be given is New DC, new scheme ant the players need time to gel.

Bull Pucky. Year one with Haslett we finished 31st in the NFL in yards and the fan base over at the mouse was up in arms. Most wanted the man fired after year one considering that we had a "top ten" defense the year before. :)

Haslett's track record prior to his stint with the Redskins has never been really good. To be sure, the talent he had to work with slowly frittered away. But the guy came up with some boneheaded gameplans. For instance, he kept sending Kerrigan (and Rak) into pass coverage on obvious passing downs. Why he'd do that for a team that needed to put pressure on a QB to mask glaring deficiencies in our secondary is beyond me. Sometimes, this involved sending Kerrigan on some real mismatches in coverage. For instance, he'd have Ryan trying to cover LeSean McCoy. Huh?

On other occasions, he'd try to be some great defensive mastermind in dialing up exotic blitzes where a corner would blitz and someone like a Perry Riley (who's awful in coverage) had to man cover Randall Cobb. If anyone remembers that, Riley was covering Cobb on a fourth-down play early in the 2013 GB game. Result: 43-yard TD to Cobb.

Then, he comes out saying he was shackled by Shanahan. Please. I'm not sure if Barry will be improvement, but I do know that Haslett had to go.

i gave him that . in fact i am on record as saying when we switched to the 3-4 it would take at least 2 years to get the right guys you need .

in fact i gave him last year as well because he was burdened by shanahan interference

but in the end , and what you dont want to see is he is a journeyman DC . occasionally he will show well but more often then not he is pedestrian

i will give you that his secondary didnt have great talent but more often then not he couldnt get his players in the right defense , on the same page and they didnt know their collective responsibilities . i can live with getting beat physically if they are in the right defense and the whole defense is actually playing the same defense but his players werent even in the right places and that is coaching not lack of talent
