Matz, Rojas....ugghh.

Effing terrible.

Matz wasn't ready at all...and Rojas with another boneheaded rookie mgr decision.

 :gaah:

They should've just stayed with Peterson as planned.
He was the scheduled starter until last night.

The ambush & massacre is over....at least for today.

Mets lost 15-2.

This is how bad it was....lol/smh...

The most effective pitcher for the Mets was veteran third baseman Todd Frazier, who tossed a 1-2-3 ninth in his first career appearance on the mound. He struck out Adam Duvall looking at a 55 mph curve.

Coming into today with just 8 games to go, the Mets were only 1.5 games back from the 8th playoff spot in the NL.

They're gonna need a late inning rally to at least ensure that remains the same.

It's 3-0 Atlanta in the 8th right now, thanks in part to ex Mets catcher Travis d'Arnaud. :L
Remember that POS and how he could never stay healthy enough to play consistently while he was with the team??

After today's loss...the Mets are now 2.5 games back for the 8th playoff spot in the NL...and they only have 7 games remaining.

Not looking too good at the moment...but stranger things have happened.

They'll pretty much have to win out, or go no worse than 6-1...and still need help from some other teams all week long.

LGM!
YGB!

As I was saying....

NEW YORK -- Thoughts of the postseason seem far away now. Thoughts of a late run seem implausible at best. In losing a 7-0 game to the Braves on Sunday at Citi Field, the Mets dropped to five games below .500 with seven to play. They sit in 11th place in the National League, 2 1/2 games back of a playoff spot.
Mathematically, there is still a chance for the Mets to win out and make the postseason. Statistically, those odds have never been worse. The Mets (24-29) will need to win at least six of their remaining seven games, and possibly all seven, to have a realistic chance at playing into October.

Oh well...so much for that.
It was gonna take a miracle for them to make the playoffs anyhow.

Final: Rays 2 - Mets 1
They decided to lose focus by being impatient and undisciplined at the plate and could not get anything going.

Now they'll have to win all 6 remaining games....and then do lots of praying...which likely still won't even be enough.

Tough way to lose.
Pitch like you mean it, but get no run support.

Up next:
Mets RHP Rick Porcello (1-6, 5.46 ERA) has struggled in his first season with New York, but his only victory came at Washington on Aug. 5 when he allowed one run in seven innings.

On Friday he'll be facing Nationals RHP Max Scherzer (4-4, 3.67) who could finish with a winning record for the 11th consecutive season --- tying Los Angeles Dodgers lefty Clayton Kershaw for the longest active such streak --- if he beats the Mets in his final start of 2020.

Mets still alive....thanks to the Padres game 2 win over the Giants.

The Mets entered play on Friday needing a win to keep their microscopic playoff hopes alive, and they'll enter Saturday's doubleheader still alive, thanks to the Padres' walk-off win over the Giants in the nightcap of their doubleheader at Oracle Park. Still, the Mets can reach the postseason only by winning all of their remaining games and having the Phillies and Giants stumble multiple times.

Let's Go Mets.......Rays & Padres.
