Mets' traveling party tests negative for coronavirus

No additional positive COVID tests for Mets

The Mets announced late Saturday that COVID-19 tests taken Thursday and Friday by members of the traveling party back to New York from Miami all came back negative. Further, tests taken by close contacts of the two individuals who tested positive also came back negative.

The tests were administered after one Mets player and one staff member tested positive during New York's series against the Marlins earlier this week. The test results for those two individuals came on Thursday, and that day's series finale against the Marlins was postponed. The individuals who tested positive and their close contacts stayed in Miami, while the remaining Mets players and staff members returned to New York on Thursday night.

The Mets' weekend Subway Series against the Yankees was also postponed out of an abundance of caution while further testing was administered. Along with their announcement of the negative test results, the Mets added that all players and staffers who returned to New York would continue to be tested and remain in self-isolation.

Mets got swept...and worse yet, were shutout in both games.
But wait....there's more. Familia allowed a Marlin's runner on 3rd to steal home /w 2 outs in the 6th and no one else on base. That player walked leading off the 6th, then quickly stole 2nd, then w/ 1 out stole 3rd, before stealing home w/ 2 outs....and he even fell about 10 ft from home before getting back up and barely sneaking across the plate.
*(Part of it was Mets catcher Ali Sanchez' fault)

To add insult to injury,the Mets out hit the Fish in both games.

In a flurry of moves prior to their first game since last Wednesday, the Mets placed IF Andres Gimenez and C Tomas Nido on the IL for undisclosed reasons and recalled OF Juan Lagares and OF Patrick Mazeika from their alternate training site in Brooklyn. The Mets also announced third base coach Gary DiSarcina and bench coach Hensley Meulens are away from the team indefinitely for undisclosed reasons. Tony DeFrancesco replaced DiSarcina while quality control coach Brian Schneider added bench coach to his duties. The Mets said they will not identify players or staff member who test positive for coronavirus.

Up next:
Mets: Two-time reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom (2-0, 1.93 ERA) is scheduled to pitch for the first time since Aug. 19, when he blanked the Marlins over six innings. The Mets didn't pitch deGrom on Tuesday because he didn't get his usual between starts mound work in until Monday.

Marlins: Elieser Hernandez (1-0, 2.29 ERA) will be looking to win back-to-back starts for the first time as a big leaguer.
