My interest in this dude stretches back to 2000, when he tore up the Cal League while pitching at San Jose as a 19 year old. To this day, he's the best minor league pitcher I ever saw in person. So, this, from Chris Haft:

The Venezuelan League has a lot of happenings, but some notable players missing or not yet playing. First, let me tell you all that Jerome Williams is 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 17 innings.

Yes, that Jerome Williams. He has eight walks, so you know it’s really him. I anticipate the Giants offering him a contract within the next few weeks.

Maybe we can locate Jesse Foppert and Kurt Ainsworth too?

I imagine your comment about the Giants offering him a contract was likely made in jest, but let me tell you that he would not be a bad addition if he were given a contract. Williams has bounced around the world playing baseball and has actually become a much better pitcher than when we last saw him in a Giants uni.

I watched Williams throw for the Halos late in the season. He faced the A'ss in late September and threw very well in an Angels win. Granted, it is minor league baseball when the A'ss come to town, but Oakland team had a couple of solid hitters in Willingham, DeJesus, the younger Weeks and Crisp.

He is not an overpowering pitcher by any stretch of the imagination, but he actually looked like he was throwing harder than when he broke in with the Giants. He still has that nasty downward break on his pitches and he gets a lot of ground balls with it.

I don't want to stretch here, but I honestly think that he could be another Vogelsong-esque comeback story. And if he succeeded, he could give the Giants more reason to trade Durty and put $5 mil more back into the pot so Sabes can get more bats.

Cam: not MY comment; Chris Haft's comment, who is down there following the Giants minor leaguers. I'd expect that he'll be offered a minor league contract and invited to ST. I'm rooting for the kid.

Soon we'll be talking about bringing Noah Lowry back.

Too bad the story played out the way it did. It caused Nick to leave the team as well.

Nick's exit from the game caused SUCH a black-hole that no one even remembers that he existed.

Shame the way he went out. I remember thinking "Zito, Cain, Lowry, Lincecum, Sanchez".

Miss that guy.

What's telling isn't just having Lowry pencilled in as the 3rd starter, how about Timmy at 4 and Zito at 1!

Baseball: nobody knows nuthin'.

Nick doesn't leave a team; he contracts himself and a parallel universe is born.

Nick Lowry would be instant WS for the Giants. Short of that, I guess signing puka shell to a minor league deal would be a good move. Can't have enough pitching. Just ask Texas.

Puka Shell's 2011 numbers with the Halos.

Aaah. Sorry. Didn't realize the thoughts were his. I hope the Giants do offer him a contract and a shot.

Low risk, possibly high reward. The SabeySabes Way. Eventually, the stars align, and that team wins a World Series a couple years earlier than expected. Now, I expect at least one championship in the next 5-7 years. Not in a greedy or heads-will-roll/sky-is-falling if it doesn't happen way. Just aligning my expectations with the front office's, and rooting the same as always.

For JW, what fan doesn't love a possible story like that? I hope to one day give Ryan Vogelsong a Hi-5, and a "you've made a lot of people very proud."

You mean, you are going to give him a tip of the cap? You will shake his hand because he brought his lunch pail to work?

En fuego...almost. You needed to finish with the non-sequitor.
