I'm having trouble trusting the climb...

We're currently ranked...

#100 in scoring offense @ 22.7 ppg. Last year we were #10 @ 40.3.

#126 in rushing offense @ 88.14 ypg. Last year we finished #76 @ 160.92.

#75 in passing offense @ 260 ypg. Last year... #4 @ 351.3.

#120 in total offense @ 314.1 ypg. Last year... #8 @ 512.3.

ST's are currently worse than last year.
Team Efficiencies - 2019 - ESPN

Bare cupboard, my friend, there were 5 starters against OU that started last years game. You of all people should be able to spot a TRUE bare cupboard. Good times are ahead for us, this year looks a LOT like Fraud's first year, flashes of greatness surrounded by a LOT of mediocrity

Don’t throw that old excuse out there. You gotta be better than that...

Our worst season under Dana... was the 2013 campaign.

I won't argue that Dana inherited some great football players... great players at the skill positions. Of course, I have repeatedly challenged anyone to point out the depth of talent we had at any position when he took the reigns in '11.

So... to start the '13 season... Dana would have had two recruiting classes... the '12 and '13 classes. Bill's last recruiting class would have been the '11 class. Kids from the '10 class and the '11 class would be either SR's/RS JR's... JR's/RS SO's.

Depth chart for the Texas game.

WVU Football Depth Chart: Updated For Texas

At QB... we had a 3 star grad transfer and a 2 star walk-on... Trickett was in his first year of the program. Today... we have two 4 star transfers, and a 3/4 star third stringer.

At RB... we had Sims... grad transfer from UH, Smallwood - true FR, and Smith - JUCO transfer. All first year players. Today... we have a SR, and 2 SO. Petteway has gone into a RS status. All have been major contributors in the past... not this year though.

At WR... we had Alford and White-JUCO transfers and Shorts (FR). All first time players for WVU. Back ups were SO's... KJ Myers, Ivan McCartney and Jordan Thompson. Ivan the only player with real experience. This year, our receiver corps includes Haskins at TE and Simmons with experience. At most positions, Neal is playing true FR and RS FR now that Bush has left the team and Ryan is injured.

There is no question the '13 team had a more experienced OL than this year's. Losing Sills to injury was huge. Jones electing to leave for Youngstown St has proven to be a bigger hit than it initially looked as he didn't grade very well. But, Buccigrossi was to be his replacement and he medically retires.

At the skill positions, there is similar experience at the FBS level for the two seasons.

The 2013 team finished with the following offensive rankings...

Scoring - #79 @ 26.3

Total - #63 @ 410.8

Rushing - #83 @ 148.67

Passing - #34 @ 262.1

Same level of cupboard as what Neal faces today... minus the injury at OL to Sills.

WVU lost 3 games in OT. Was blown out in 2 games... Maryland and Baylor. This year, we have yet to lose a game by 1 score... double digit losses in every game. Total whipping in the 2nd half of our last 3 losses.

In the past, we'd have someone blame the coaching staff for being out coached... for lack of 2nd half adjustments. This poster would also blame kids for quitting in the 2nd half... lack of discipline...

I hope you are correct, however, I haven't seen the flashes of greatness. I have seen where a change of defense has produced better results on that side of the ball and only if Gibby would have changed his base defense, maybe we would have had better results over the last couple of years. FHCDH could certainly produce points no matter who was the QB. Being a HC coming to WVU, I expected better things right out of the gate.

I said the same thing to Slaton last night. The TT game might be our best chance. They haven’t won on the road this year.

We can compare that to some stats from our old coach who inherited a team that was supposed to be a winner
  • Passing Yards
    194th
    201.4 PYPG
  • Rushing Yards
    50th
    206.8 RYPG
  • Total Yards Per Game
    117th
This year we were destined to suck. We all knew it from the start. Few of us really thought we would have more wins at this point of the season. WVU has hit the reset button and will suffer in the short term. If you look at our opponent this Thursday, you can see what a good reset does. 2017 1-11, 2018 7-6, 2019 8-0. I hope for the same with us. It takes time to rebuild.

Give HCNB Grier, Sills, Jennings, Cadjuste, Long and you would have right to bitch about his record.

Is there anyone out here who would really like to have Holgerson back?

Baylor hit the reset button for an entirely different reason and lost a lot of players due to what was going on institutionally.

Have you looked at Rhule’s resume and do you expect HCNB to be in a position to be 8-0 in 2021? 2022?

I would take FHCDH with at least this DC. If he would have forced Gibby to change his base D or cut Gibby, I believe the results would have been different.

HCNB has to develop his own players just like the others. Hopefully he will. Time will tell.

Good question...I say no to wanting Holgorsen back...after marinating on a it a little bit I would suggest he took us as far as he could..However based on the watching this vanilla offense run all year with no imagination I am not sure Neal Brown is the answer either....but I will give him a few years just like any coach to get his players in and see what he can do..

Where is the flashes of greatness? Other than our punter? I have seen flashes of mediocrity surrounded by pure shit, but no flashes of greatness, not blaming Real Deal Neal, he had his Bare cupboard handed to him, if only we could play a Gibby D every week, we would look more respectable Trust the climb, in 2-3 more years we will be winning the Big 12 championships, a National Title not long after. We got a Real HC Now! I'm glad Real Deal Neal is here

I just hope one of the Blue Bloods don't pick off our Real Deal Head Coach after we win a Big 12 Title, would suck not to get the National Title
