Yeah - how many guys are going to knock off before they play a full season for you? It's like you have Tonya Harding running loose in there.

It's certainly not like in the 'old' days when each team had a bell-cow and they somehow managed to finish full seasons. ... I always think of Jim Brown, among others, handling 30 touches/game - but with him after about 15-18 the linemen would start helping him get up, then he'd just do it again and again.

Yeah, but the helmet change has made helmets a weapon, drastic cut back of OTA in the off season, lack of playing in preseason leaves them coming in out of shape ( at least those who are not motivated enough). It's a combination of things IMO, but think the changes in equipment allows for players to make hits that ruin knees as the main cause and ironically the changes in equipment was supposedly done for player safety.

That’s true. Nobody wants to hit a knee with a leather helmet.

Yeah, you throw on some old film of Dick Butkus, Lyle Alzado..heck even Romanowski...some of the things that were legal then, but aren't now?? Kinda balances out at least some of the 'bigger, faster' factor
