Throughout the season I'll use this thread to talk about the top prospects, top performers, and some disappointing performers in the Cards farm system.

Charlie Tilson: Had an okay game against FAU with a strong showing but it's against a college team. Turned it around the next day to come off the bench against the Marlins and get a hit and score a run. Could be an average guy when he makes it to the majors.

Aledmys Diaz: Been disappointed with him so far. He's been nothing special since being signed. Had a hit yesterday in 2 at bats. Was hoping he would be a solid bench guy and be one of those super utility players on the infield.

Dean Kiekhefer: Been a solid bullpen arm in the minors since being drafted in the 36th round in 2010. Could see the majors this year after climbing to AAA Memphis last year and posted a 2.41 ERA in 59 innings.

That's about it so far. Another game today against Houston with Jaime on the mound.

Been busy with work, so let's recap the last two days from a prospects perspective.

Friday Vs. Houston (Lost 6-3)

David Washington: Drafted in 2010, never made it past AA. Will never be an impact in the majors, let's be honest. Been playing a little first base, but not a whole lot else to report on him.

Tilson: Played again against Houston, went 0-2 with a strike out.

Diaz: Hit and a run, brought his average up to .667 for the spring. Nice to see him hitting the ball well this spring.

Carson Kelly: His first action this spring. I hope he can get his ass into gear, because he's the future behind the plate once Molina hangs em up. He's been a mediocre hitter and fielder behind the plate so far in his minors career.

Today vs. Miami (Won 3-2)

Diaz: 0-3, brings his average back down to .333 which is still a decent spring for this guy. Need to see more consistency from him

Tilson: 0-1 but stole 2 bases and scored a run. Guy has some wheels, that's what he has to use to get to the bigs. If he can be a .270 hitter, he could steal 20-25 bases.

Michael Ohlman: 1-2 coming in to replace Bryan Pena. He's our other hope behind the plate once Molina retires.

Pitching: About time we saw some arms that will contribute in 2016 and beyond.

Marco Gonzales: 2.2, 4 hits, 2 runs but none earned, 1 walk and no strike outs.

Seung Hwan Oh "The Stone Buddha" saw his first action in a Cards uni, throwing 1 and a third of no run, not hit, no walk baseball. Also didn't strike out anybody, but hey it's his first appearance. I'm excited to have this guy at the tail end of the bullpen.

Another day another game.

Sunday vs. Nats

Caught a bit on mlb network. Wind was blowing in hard, made for some interesting fly balls and some other shots that would be homeruns in every park on a normal day.

Nick Plummer: First ST appearance ever. First round pick last year. Reports say he was a top 10-15 guy before an injury and lack of experience (played in a bad high school conference) went 0-1 with an RBI groundout. Played a very solid RF, made a great catch on a ball blown around by the wind.

Diaz: 0-4, 3 K's. Getting sick of his shit already. Same story, different year with him.

Anthony Garcia: Guy I've neglected to mention so far this spring training. Has been very solid in every aspect of the game. Swinging a good bat and playing solid D in the OF. Could be a midseason call up to play multiple outfield spots.

Not sure how I missed this, but Friday's game against Houston...

Luke Weaver: 2 innings pitched, 5 hits, 3 ERs, 4 Ks. You know, considering the only runs he gave up were a homerun to Preston Tucker, an RBI double to Altuve, and then a single to Valbuena (who homered off Garcia earlier), I would say that's a pretty damn good spring debut. Got a DP in the 4th and then struck out Jonathan Singleton and Correa in the 5th. Can't wait to see him in the rotation in a year or 2.

Monday vs. Mets: Win 8-3 with 6 stolen bases as a team.

Charlie Tilson: 0-1 after replacing Pham. Stole a base and scored a run.

Anthony Garcia: 0-1 with a run and a walk after replacing Piscotty and moving over to left.

Aledmys Diaz: 0-2 with an RBI and a K. Average in ST down to .167

Jon Rodriguez: Haven't mentioned him yet but he's a 26 year old who's never been above AA. Well he's hitting .429 and playing a decent first base this spring while Adams has looked awful. Had a 2-3 with 2 RBIs and a run scored against the Mets to keep up his solid pace so far.

Tuesday vs. Minn: Win 5-3

Anthony Garcia: 1-4 out in left with a homerun and 2 RBIs.

Aledmys Diaz: 4-4 starting at short. Is he our starting short stop to start the year now? Who knows. Might get ugly

Oh: Came in and threw a scoreless third.

Weaver: 2 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 1 K and the win.

Wednesday vs. Mia: Lost 5-3

Patrick Wisdom: 1-2 with a 2 run homerun coming in to replace Carp at 3rd.

Tilson: came in as a pinch runner, stole his 5th base of the spring, and scored a run.

Carson Kelly: Came in to replace Tilson as the DH and proceeded to get himself a base knock.

Greg Garcia: One of the guys who could be spending some time at short until Peralta is ready. 0-1 replacing Gyorko at short.

Anthony Garcia: 1-4 out in left, still at a solid .333 for the spring

Marco: 1 inning pitched, 2 hits, 1 run(earned), 1 walk, no Ks

Thursday vs. NYM: Loss 7-2

Greg Garcia: 1-3 while playing 3B, fighting for that starting SS job to open the season

Aledmys Diaz: 0-3 playing short. Made a nice play on a ball in the hole against Cespedes and fired a beautiful one hopped to Adams at first who let the ball play him. Couldn't have asked for a better throw, a nice long hop that hit in the grass but he gets the error since he made the throw.

Austin Gomber: First action since the FAU game I believe, .1 of an inning, 2 hits, 4 runs (all earned), 2 walks.

Been away for a few days so let's catch up

Friday vs. Atl: Win 4-3

Jacob Wilson: 2-3 after replacing Carp at third. 1 run and 1 RBI and 2 steals. Played in Memphis last year as well as Springfield

Aledmys Diaz: 0-1 with a walk at 2B and a stolen base.

Greg Garcia: 1-1 at short with a run scored. Replaced Gyorko

Magneuris Sierra: 2-4 in center with the game winning RBI and scored a run and also stole a bag.

Oh: Another perfect inning replacing CMart on the mound

Saturday: Split Squad Day

Win 14-9 over the Mets

Nick Plummer: 1-2 out in right with an RBI. Replaced Grichuk who had a monster day.

Micheal Ohlman: Replaced Pena at catcher and went 1-1

Jacob Wilson: 2-5 with 2 RBIs and a run scored on a homerun.

Carson Kelly: 3-4 at DH with 3 runs scored and an RBI with a homerun.

Junior Fernandez: 19 year old out of the Dominican. 1 inning pitched, 2 walks, 3 runs and 2 hits. First time being on the mound this spring and has never reached anything higher than Rookie ball. Going to be a solid player someday.

Other game: 4-3 win over the Astros

Diaz: 1-4 with 1 RBI at short, nothing special but nothing bad either.

Greg Garcia: 1-4 at second.

More prospects in the Mets game, but still a solid showing by all on Saturday

Sunday: 4-4 tie against the Nats

Diaz: 0-2 at short with 1 K. That seems to be his biggest issue, the strike out. Way too many if he's going to be our SS to start the year.

Jacob Wilson: 0-3 at third

Carson Kelly: 1-4 at catcher with an RBI

Mag Sierra: 0-3 in center and right with 1 K.

Marco: 3 innings pitched, 3 hits and 6 K's. Beautiful outing for him. Got most of the starters still in the game with a few exceptions.

Luke Weaver: 1 inning pitched, no hits runs or walks.

Jack Flaherty: 1 hit and 1 K in one inning pitched.

Monday: 4-3 Loss to the Twins

Wilson: 1-1 subbing in for Carp at 3rd. 1 run scored.

Diaz: 1-1 replacing Gyorko at short. Scored a run

Oh: Another perfect inning with a K

Austin Gomber: 1 inning pitched 3 hits, 1 run, 2 Ks

Anthony Garcia: 1-4 out in left with a run scored and an outfield assist

In other news: Charlie Tilson was designated to AAA Memphis yesterday. Glad he'll be starting the season there and I think we'll see him in September if we stay healthy in the outfield. He'll be some good wheels off the bench for late game situations when we need some speed.

Wednesday: Tie 8-8 against ATL

Diaz: Comes off the bench to replace Gyorko and goes 0-2. Think Gyorko has the starting job locked down but Diaz will be there pushing him for the at bats until Peralta comes back.

Jon Rodriguez: 2-2 with 2 RBIs at first replacing Adams over there.

Missed this one the other day. Dean Kiekhefer still has a 0.00 ERA in ST, I think he's a guy who's pushing for a job in the bigs out of camp. 3.2 innings with 3 Ks, can't ask for much else from a bullpen arm.

Thursday: 5-4 loss to Detroit

Patrick Wisdom: 1-1 when he came in at third.

Diaz: 0-2 at short, nothing special.

Oh: 1 inning, 3 hits and 1 run. First run given up of the spring.

A lot of regulars played this one so not a whole lot going on there.

Sunday: Vs. Marlins loss 5-2

Kiekhefer: .2 innings pitched. 1 walk. 1 K

Not a prospect, but: Ruben Tejada went 1-4 at short in his first time with the Birds on the bat.

Greg Garcia: 3-3 today.

Anthony Garcia was optioned to AAA Memphis today as well. Willing to bet he's the guy if anybody in the outfield gets hurt this season.

In honor of Alex Reyes (Number 1 prospect in the Cardinals system) finally making his season debut, let's take a look around the farm!

Number 2 overall prospect Jack Flaherty: 5.87 ERA pitching for Palm Beach. Opponents are hitting a whopping .309 against him and he's tallied 35 K's in 38.1 innings.

Luke Weaver (#3): Has not played yet this season, injury.

Mag Sierra (#4): In 38 games for Peoria he's hit .280 and gotten on base at a .293 clip. Haven't watched him play yet but it's obvious he needs to work on his plate discipline. He's struck out 36 times and only walked 4. So either the pitchers there have top notch control or he's swinging at everything.

Edmundo Sosa (#5): Also playing 38 games for Peoria he's hit .272 with a .309 OBP. 9 walks to only 27 K's, could be better but could be worse (See Mag Sierra).

Nick Plummer (#6): Has not played, in rookie ball.

Marco Gonzales (#7): Has not played, injury.

Tim Cooney (#8): See Marco/Weaver.

Charlie Tilson (#9): First guy from Memphis aside from Reyes on the list and has hit .228 but is sporting a .310 OBP. 15 walks and 26 K's in 36 games along with 7 steals. September call up for a defensive replacement/pinch runner no doubt.

Harrison Bader (#10): One guy I'm very excited about. Not talked about much but has exploded this year in Springfield. Hitting .335 with 8 home runs to lead the Springfield squad along with a .928 OPS.

And some guys outside of the top 10.

Carson Kelly (#13): Came around as of late, hitting .277 with a .331 OBP. 7 walks and 29 K's. More importantly he's caught 12 runners and given up 30 so far this year. He's the eventual replacement to Yadi so hopefully he keeps up the solid defense.

And finally my personal favorite in the Cards system...
Junior Fernandez (#15): Pitching in Peoria, he's got a 3.52 ERA in 7 starts. Only given up 1 homerun to go with 29 strike outs. Needs to cut down on the walks, but the dude is 19 years old and it's his first full season in the majors. Opponents are hitting .252 off him and he has a 1.54 WHIP so far.

Hoping to make it down to a start of Fernandez's this summer since Peoria is just a short trip down state.
