Okay! Now that I have my computer back......we can finally get this show on the road.
Making its debut on SportsHoopla for the first time ever, it is the one, the only, the College Football Survivor Series Challenge!
This will mark the 4th season of the SSC, but new site and new fans means new changes as well. We're going bigger and better this year, with 3 different active contests that will be kept track of throughout the season, including the introduction of a weekly fantasy-style contest.
This will be the official sign-up thread for anyone wanting to participate. A few have already thrown their names into the hat in the thread I posted about a couple weeks ago. Right now, I'm aiming for a max of 18 players, but typically we've been at around 12-14 every year (in all fairness, we could bump the max up to 22 as there are 138 teams in college football this year, but I'll wait and see what the turnout is like first).
The sign-up portion will last until Wednesday, August 19th at 11:59 pm. Then the following day, Thursday, August 20th, the Draft portion will begin at 11 am.
So how does this thing all work?.............Allow me to explain. Once the sign-up period ends, because this is a new board, I will randomize the order and we will have a snake-style draft. (If you have 3 players in order- 1, 2, 3 and they draft 1st, 2nd, 3rd, to start, then the player that picked 3rd will pick 1st in the next round and we work our way back up to the first player- 3, 2, 1 and so on)
Every player will draft SIX teams out of the 138 available for the upcoming 2026-27 CFB season. This year's draft will run from Thursday, August 20th to Friday, August 28th or until every contestant has selected their 6 teams. As the deadline approaches, or if a participant hasn't made a pick in an extended period of time, they will be forced to auto-draft from the next available team of a provided list/preseason ranking of all 138 teams. You may also choose to have any or all of your picks "auto-drafted" just like in Fantasy leagues, if you may not always be available throughout that Draft Week (or if you just don't want to hassle with picking your own teams). I'm probably forgetting something, so if you have anymore questions about the Draft, feel free to ask.
In most years, the draft would be the most work you'd have to do in this challenge. But this year, we're gonna make things a little more interactive.
For the 2026 Survivor Series Challenge, again as I mentioned, there will be three different contests:
(Ultimate Survivor)- if one of the six teams you pick goes on to win the National Championship
(Survivor Cup)- the original format we played with, which is the culmination of your six teams' overall records through the regular season. The winner is determined by whoever has the best combined overall record of their six teams at the end of the regular season
However, starting this year, the main week-to-week contest for all participants will be the Weekly War Games.
If you have ever played Fantasy Football (or any other Fantasy sport before) this should be pretty easy to understand. Here's the rules as follows:
- players will pick FOUR of their 6 teams each week to set a lineup, and ONLY THOSE FOUR TEAMS will count as active for their respective matchups
- every player will face off with another player each week, with some meeting twice in the season depending on how many participants we have
- as of right now, the winner of each matchup will be determined based on the total combined points of your four teams vs your opponent's
**- this is one of the most important rules that I foresee players struggling with, because it's also something many Fantasy players struggle with as well.........you MUST set your four-team lineup by the start time of the first game of any of your six teams. That means if you have a team playing on a Thursday, or one of your teams starts at 11 am on a Saturday and the rest play later, you will need to have your lineup set BY THE TIME THAT FIRST TEAM PLAYS.........this will particularly be something you all will need to be on your toes about, so to speak, once we get to the portion of the season where weekday MACtion begins and we got games going on Tuesdays and Wednesdays......(I know this is early, but because we do not have a format where you can keep track of your own teams like the ESPN app or Yahoo and you can be responsible for your own lineups, I have to set something in stone on here so that I can keep track of and post these matchups on the official IN-SEASON thread. I will do my best to keep in touch with all participants to remind them of their schedules and make sure a lineup gets set)**
- if you do not have your own lineup submitted by the start of your first team's game, do not worry though, as I will simply use the lineup you had the prior week. The only risk with that is that if you have a team (or teams) on a BYE, you won't get any points from that game.
- here's an example of a weekly lineup submission:
