OK, now that 2014 is over, let's start speculating about 2018 (just some fun to fill time until the league starts up again).

For the sake of speculation, let's assume the NHL players go to S. Korea. What changes do you see?

Obviously some of the old guard are out and there's any number of kids not in the NHL yet who could make a roster, but how about some bold predictions? Here are mine:

1) After leading the Blackhawks to another Stanley Cup, in the intervening years, Jonathan Toews is named captain of Team Canada.

2) Teemu Selanne suits up for at least one game so that he can compete in a record 7th Olympics.

3) Finland finally puts the whole package together and wins gold.

- Babcock returns to complete the hat trick as head coach in 2018 (after being fired by the Red Wings at the end of the 2016-2017 season).

- Nathan MacKinnon and Connor McDavid will headline a youth movement up front along with Sid and Toews.

- Kevin Lowe will continue to fetch coffee for the rest of the Canadian braintrust.

Nicklas Backstrom turns to herbal remedies.......

...only to find out the IOC has banned echinacea the night before the gold medal game.

Of course, they banned the substance 8 years prior, he just didn't read the handout.

-All five Russians remaining in the NHL go. After one game hearing about what it's like in the KHL they all board a plane and run back to America.
- Canadian and US women are stunned when upstart Sweden behind the stellar goaltending of Henrietta Lundqvist, forward Danielle Sedin and Defenceman Erika Karlsson wins gold.

PK Subban is the 7th defensemen and plays only a couple games. Some Bruins fans refer to that as proof that he sucks.

Dustin Byfuglien finds he enjoys Korean BBQ and thinks Korea is nicer than Winnipeg; decides to stay.

Despite years to prepare, Don Cherry never comes close to mastering the pronunciation of Pyeongchang.

The fabulous Kostitsyn brothers make their triumphant return to international hockey, promptly miss practice due to late night partying, get kicked off team.

Canadian team coaches tell Kevin Lowe the games are in Pyongyang rather than Pyeongchang. Lowe is then put in charge of the North Korean national ice hockey program which, when he is unable to build an Olympic winner despite being given the first overall pick in the "Dear Leader League", results in him being strapped to an experimental ICBM and shot directly at Edmonton.

Netherlands-based Gracenote Sports (formerly Infostrada Sports) currently predicts Canada will finish with a national-record 29 medals. That's the fourth-highest total in their projections, behind Norway (40), Germany (34) and the United States (32).

Canada's projected nine gold medals ranks fifth, behind those countries and France.

How many medals will Canada win in Pyeongchang?
