Well it looks like the Mets are playing spoilers tonight..and likely for the next 2 weeks too.
Trouble is..they're just gonna end up spoiling their own chances by losing like they are now.
Getting some great opportunities to score but they can't break out of their nasty habits and bad luck ways.

3-1 Phils.
Mid 7th.

As has been the case for the last few weeks...the Mets decided to show up late, only to come up a buck short.

Final:
4-3. Not the Mets.

Now with only 14 games left, and just to finish the season at .500, they'll have to go 9-5.

Up Next:
Mets RHP Carlos Carrasco (1-2, 5.59) faces Phillies RHP Aaron Nola (7-8, 4.58 ERA) in the middle game on Saturday.

The extended benching of Dom Smith and him being relegated to just a PH role these last few weeks is really irking me more now than it was then.

Oh well....it might have no consequence at this point anyhow...but being that as it may....

Here's Tonight's Mets Lineup vs Philadelphia ( Nola)

Geeez.

This team has turned into a bunch of flunkies & bed crappers who are being guided by a clueless manager with no direction whatsoever. It's like they suddenly stopped competing and are just merely going through the motions.

What an effing embarrassing twist of fortune and disappointing turn they've taken.

Sad thing to watch unfold after a very good 1st half of the season.

Steve Cohen must be pissed off to the max. I know I sure am.

Glad it's almost over.

Final:
Phils 5 - Mets 3

Up Next:

Mets LHP Rich Hill (6-7, 3.88 ERA) is looking for his first win since being acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays on July 23.
Hill, 0-3 with a 3.88 ERA in 10 games (nine starts) will start the series finale on Sunday.
He'll face Phillies RHP Kyle Gibson (10-7, 3.49 ERA) who is 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA in three starts this month.

Also...why is Luis Rojas still the "manager"?

The bottom of the 4th, and the top of the 5th of this game was a microcosm of the Mets season in a nutshell.

But I digress....the Mets still lead (for now) 2-1, middle of the 5th.

And now of course the Mets are trailing 4-2....Stro suddenly struggling.

Anyhow...back to the bottom of the 4th, & the top of the 5th.

Stro got 2 quick outs then gave up b2b2b hits and allowed a run..after the Mets offense gave him a 2-0 lead in the top half.

Move along to the top of the 5th...Mets had 2nd & 3rd with 1 out...but couldn't muster another run...(shocker)
Now in the bottom of the 5th....the Sox have taken control of this game, and Stro is almost at 100 pitches.

Microcosm of the 2nd half of this season...and oddly, also some of the 1st half too, but it's magnified x1000 now, and the last few weeks.

#RojasShrugs.

Miguel Castro was hell bent on making sure the game got even harder for the Mets to comeback.

After he got 2 quick outs in the 6th...he hit a batter, and gave up b2b walks to load the bases for Bogaerts who knocked in 2 runs...to make it 6-2 heading to the 7th.

More shrugging by Rojas was seen.

On the last "official day" of summer.....the Mets drop another....final: 6-3.
They're now 73-78 with only 11 games remaining....and will have to go 8-3 to finish at .500

FFS!
Why even bother at this point......I wouldn't risk further damage.
Just shut them both down...and save it for spring training 2022.
