Mets grab an early lead in the 1st on Alonso's rbi single.

Now the 1st 2 dodgers have reached in the bottom half.
Leadoff guy should've been called out, but the HP ump didn't see it.
2nd batter hit it into the shift, but the ball was misread, and thrown late to the bag.

Memo to Callaway...stop playing in the silly shift, and play straight up on defense.

Now JT singles to load the bases with no outs.

Bellinger pop fouls out to Nido.
Seager grounds into a force at 2nd....and it should've been a DP, but flatfooted Rosario didn't get a good throw off to 1st.

Run scores.
Game tied 1-1.

deGrom finally gets the 3rd out.

Sheeesh...Mets runners have been thrown out twice at the plate in this one so far.
Conforto in the 1st, & now Nido here in the 5th.

But JD Davis comes through with a 2 out 2 run blast.

Mets 3 - Dodgers 2.

LGM!!!

deGrom getting into trouble in the 5th....

LA has 1st & 2nd with no outs...

He's close to 100 pitches.

edit:
sac fly...1 out....runners at the corners now....

He gets the next 2 batters..no harm done...except now he's at 105 pitches thru 5.

3-2 Mets.

Well it was fun while it lasted....
Bashlor out...Zamora in...

LA puts up 3 more w/ a PH 3 run HR off Zamora.
6-3 Dodgers.

Callaway getting duped by Dave Roberts.

Zamora plunks Seager with the bases loaded after an IBB...

7-3..still only 1 out.

sac fly rbi...2 outs.

8-3 LA

Geeez...Font in for Zamora.

LA batting around...and then some...

Bases loaded...

Hurray... 3 outs.

The Mets lined up in front of their dugout Monday for a moment of silence honoring Buckner, who began his career with the Dodgers. Another member of that 1986 Mets team, Keith Hernandez, recalled losing the National League batting title to Buckner, then with the Cubs, on the final day of the 1980 season.

“My former Major Leaguers and teammates are slowly moving off into the sunset,” Hernandez said on Twitter. “I am really upset about Bill Buckner’s passing. He’s another guy I wished I could have played with, not just against. He was a terrific hitter as well as a human being. Tears.”

Can't stay up for these west coast games. I see the pen got bombarded again. Has to be disheartening knowing if you can't go 6+ with the starter you're almost certain to lose.

We can get away with that maybe 5 or 6 times out of 10...but then it almost always backfires at the worst time....and then guys over compensate which leads to injuries piling up, and relying on unreliable arms out of the pen.

Domino effect en sech.

Mitigating weaknesses for your team, while exploiting those of your opponent seems to be a long lost art lately.

Final: Mets 7 - Dodgers 3.

Solid pitching, timely hitting, awesome defense & a stingy BP wins games?
Who Knew?? ;)

Michael Conforto's 1st career GS was the difference maker.
Props to Steven Matz, and to the BP are also in order.
