Doesn't seem like a make or break move, but does keep some consistency back there as long as he is not missing chip shots to win games.

27th out of 30 ranked kickers last season. Seems about right.

Hobson is probably yankin it to this move as we speak. Only the Bengals are smart enough to lock up a mediocre kicker before free agency. This will cut into our reserves for injury settlements though. Might just bankrupt the organization.

Btw. Clint Boling is gonna look great in Vikings purple next year. "We keep our own" after all. We also released Mike Pollak a couple weeks ago. Maybe we just won't have a left guard this season.

guard has never been a position of priority with Cincinnati.

they could be giving up sacks and letting the rb's get tackled every down and they would still blame it on the more expensive player.

remember how Jeff Blake rose to the top of the depth chard after being added to be the #3 QB here?

I was not a huge ~Nugent fan, but 27th out of 32 seems low. What is the ranking based upon? Number of FG made? FG percentage? I was extremely pissed about the missed FG against Carolina, but was ecstatic about his 57 yard FG in the playoffs. He made 15 of 16 down the stretch. Doesn't seem like he should be ranked that low, but I guess it is what it is. Like I said, not a make or break move by any means, but does keep consistency back there none the less. I am okay with the move.

Now, how good is Boiling ranked, because the year before, he was not that great I thought. I think last year he finally started doing something, but even then, it didn't seem like he stood out.

He was good at the end of the season. He was very shaky at the beginning of the season and he's not the best kick-off option in the league. In general I think he probably grades out as a very average kicker and he 'probably' could have his production matched by a cheaper/younger alternative..... But this organization has been burned by a young kicker before (Rackers) and doesn't have the quick hook mentality to draft a guy and replace him if he doesn't pan out.

I would have preferred that they go with a rookie or a young player..... It's not hard to add a vet like Nugent if it doesn't work out.

I wonder what Nugent really does in the offseason? my guess is he steadily improves during the season because he just couch potatoes it in the offseason. A lot of pitchers have this problem in baseball.
