Drew Brees will be 72 years old next year. I don't think the Saints are planning on a franchise tag.

Schmoop... you're making... entirely too much sense tonight. I'm going to stop responding to you for the evening, entirely.

After your first contract you can put anything you want in the contract, just need a team to agree to it right?

Maybe I'm wrong and I def can be, but doesn't he count 20 mil against their cap next year even if they cut him? If they keep him he's owed something like 40+ mil, no? He could retire after this year which could change things, but will this be his last year?

I can understand that no FT clause with him being 40+. I doubt the team would have been too keen on it if the deal was done 10 years ago though. If Drew wants to keep playing after next season, he can just do a one or two year deal and I would bet the Saints would be happy to oblige. At this point, he has lots of money, he's happy, he has nothing to prove although would like another ring and he's practically a god in the city. Life is good for one Drew Christopher Brees.

You know I was looking at his contract. I know the teams know how to move money around, but when looking at it. It looks like he gave away 20 mil.
I know I have to be reading it wrong, but that is what his reworked deal looks like. Showed 70 mil deal & now only a 50 mil. deal ending this year. Can someone explain what I am missing?

I was only looking at what you posted @Schmoopy1000 so I really don't know the details. The only thing I'm pretty sure of is that the guy is set for life and will be getting a gold jacket in a few years.

For years I have been one of the biggest Drew Brees fans out there, well at least one that doesn't also hold allegiance to the Saints. Who knows, maybe it was me, but for the first time last season, I thought I saw a guy who is finally starting to show his age. Brees just didn't look as sharp as his usual self, especially as the season continued winding down. Great leader, a first ballot HOFer for sure, but I'm a bit skeptical that he's going to lead his team back to the promised land.

didnt he have one the best accurate season all time last year? Which is impressive considering most of the guys he was throwing to were UDFAs.

Not knocking the stats and yes, I think statistically, it was one of his best seasons ever. Like I said, maybe it's me, but he just didn't seem right as the year wore on. Can't put a definitive finger on it, just based on my casual observation of his play.

Well the team got figured out some near the end I give you that. Not sure that really was on Brees.
However I like using eye test more than stats as well. So while I may not agree with you. I respect your opinion of the eye test. (vs. trying to make up/spin stats to support)
