1,651 career games in the NHL and three Stanley Cup rings may not be enough for Chris Chelios.

The three-time Norris trophy winner confirmed to TSN on Friday that he was in negotiations with KHL club Vityaz after Russian-based website SovSports reported Thursday that Chelios' agent, Tom Reich, had contacted Vityaz general manager and former NHL player Alex Zhamnov to let him know that his services were available.

Former NHLers Chris Simon and Danny Markov currently play for Vityaz.

Zhamnov and Chelios spent three seasons as teammates with the Chicago Blackhawks in the late 1990's.

While Chelios acknowledged that the two sides are talking, he admitted that at the age of 48 a signing was "not likely to happen."

Last season Chelios split time between the Chicago Wolves of the AHL and the Atlanta Thrashers, but failed to register a point in seven NHL games.

A virtual lock for the Hockey Hall of Fame once he chooses to retire, the Chicago native has 185 goals and 763 assists during his illustrious career.

What a long winding road. It went from "I would never play in Detroit..." to "I will pretty much whore myself out across the planet..."

wellwoodovsky is getting big minutes with his team

Former Canuck centre Kyle Wellwood is in a familiar position -- back in the doghouse of another coach. This time in Russia, where Wellwood is playing for Atlant Moscow in the Kontinental League. Actually, playing might be too strong a word. Wellwood logged only 2:53 of ice time in Atlant's 4-1 win over Dinamo Minsk on Tuesday night. The game before that he was on the ice for 3:13. It's probably safe to say he is skating on the fourth line. Wellwood has three goals and one assist in 16 games with Atlant.

I wonder if all the Russian blogs are wagging their fingers at those lazy North Americans who play with no heart and just want a big paycheck..

*commence channelling a shitstain from the swamp*

well clearly they are using his immense talents incorrectly. He needs to be surrounded by talent to thrive. He should be on the first line, not the 4th line. And on the first powerplay unit..... nay, make that BOTH powerplay units. he's the smartest hockey player out there, make him coach, too.
