1,651 career games in the NHL and three Stanley Cup rings may not be enough for Chris Chelios.
The three-time Norris trophy winner confirmed to TSN on Friday that he was in negotiations with KHL club Vityaz after Russian-based website SovSports reported Thursday that Chelios' agent, Tom Reich, had contacted Vityaz general manager and former NHL player Alex Zhamnov to let him know that his services were available.
Former NHLers Chris Simon and Danny Markov currently play for Vityaz.
Zhamnov and Chelios spent three seasons as teammates with the Chicago Blackhawks in the late 1990's.
While Chelios acknowledged that the two sides are talking, he admitted that at the age of 48 a signing was "not likely to happen."
Last season Chelios split time between the Chicago Wolves of the AHL and the Atlanta Thrashers, but failed to register a point in seven NHL games.
A virtual lock for the Hockey Hall of Fame once he chooses to retire, the Chicago native has 185 goals and 763 assists during his illustrious career.
