What's crazy, and I think impresses me even more-he threw 12 one-hitters and 18 2-hitters.

I won’t tell Nolan Ryan your memory short changed him! LoL

I think stathead is including the no-nos with the one and two hitters

this one is an interesting one.. did not realize how good his career stats were.. when we did the top 30 players, he was never even a thought in my eyes..

but looking at his numbers deeper, it seems like his career numbers are so good because he never really had the BAD seasons... sure he had seasons that were not as good as his best, but never really had the blowout bad...

he was basically a very consistent pitcher... always one of the best, but never really the best...

except of course in SO...

Never the best indeed, never won a Cy Young award.

He's nowhere near the top 30 but perhaps he starts getting looks in the top 50?

he could have had some if the voting was in his favour...

but again, it is interesting that he has the best BA against, top 3 OPS against and top 6 FIP against in siginfificantly more innings that the pitchers ahead of him in those categories where he was not first...(since the 1920s)

you would think that he really would be a top 5 pitcher of all time... but no, he is not even top 10...

i counted 5 games where he went 9 or more innings and had 0 walks...

but i know of at least one of those that were not technically complete games...

Five is also the total StatHead has for at least nine innings pitched with four of those coming in his forties.
