I am reading that the deal for Grady Sizemore is off the table.
I'd guess he didn't pass the physical but that may not be the case.
Can't say as I really care about this development.

More recent word is that Sizemore got a better deal elsewhere.

Drat!

Has the guy swung a bat in how many years ? Don't give up Walt, I hear Eric Davis has some time on his hands.

Good for him. What's up with Nelson Cruz ? He must be a closet axe murderer...every other roider gets forgiven, but no one wants him ? Ludwick gets $9M and Cruz is unemployed ? Maybe his agent is Boras and they're holding out for a 5 year deal ? Someone is going to take this guy- he only plays half a season, but hits a full seasons worth usually.

I think Boras does represent Cruz. He will sign. I would predict he will end up with the Mets.

Or the Parrots.

Or ... well, not the Reds.

Im amazed anyone deals with a player Boras represents. He doesn't always get top dollar, but he slways tries-ask Ryan Madson, who went from declining a Papplebon sized offer from the Phillies, to $12M from the Reds to $7M Angels cash (still pretty good money for 2 years of not pitching) to whatever a desperation flier will fetch him this year. Boras career highlight has to be duping the Dodgers into bidding themselves up twice on Manny Ramirez, faking other offers that didnt exist. Maybe coincidence, but Boras sure had a lot of clients with PED issues, too.

Cruz mashes. I could see him hitting 40 HR in Cincinnati or Colorado, with 450 at bats-if Bud still isn't testing. I could also see him missing 75 games a year. Won't happen, but the perfect contract with him would be 1 year $5M regardless, with club options for 2 more years, with incentives that could pay him $20M for an MVP type year, $12M for a 20HR/80RBI partial, or just the $5M and walking papers if he's the next Andruw Jones or Vernon Wells. Everyone wants guaranteed elite money, even if they hit like a utility player. Doesn't seem to be too risk assessment friendly to me.

Remember how Cards fans loved Pujols, until he left for bigger money ? Imagine how Angels fans are going to hate him if he retires after 9 Angels years of .250/18/75 lines, drawing that quarter Billion contract. Is the difference in money worth that ? I'm not sure how much lifestyle difference $5M a career or $25M per year could possibly make, for a kid that was raised on $35k/yr...or $3k/yr....but the MLBPA would hate me...after making my first $5M or so, id go play wherever the Hell I wanted, for whatever made sense.

Funny, I always wanted to see Dusty Baker in a Sox uni.

Sizemore obviously wanted to play in Boston and he's evidently passed the physical risk that has slowed him. I have no idea how much bat speed a guy loses in 2 years but he is only 31, so he's at his peak. I'd expect him to be a backup CF until the rookie is ready.

Reds fans on another forum where i post are all sad and dejected over this but nobody even mentioned Sizemore till last Thursday. I mean ... what the fuck ... there are other outfielders.
