Bowl predictions (December 30th)

Here's my take on the whole "how long of a bye do CFP teams need?" debate. Clearly, the extra time gives the top 4 seeds more time to scout either one of their future opponents. On the other hand, you DO tend to lose an edge if you sit on your @$$ for 1 month instead of 11 days.
Let's see how the CFP quarterfinals play out this week. If the top 4 seeds (Georgia, Indiana, Ohio State, and Texas Tech) look great and/or win, then it's no problem. If we get close to what happened last year, maybe we SHOULD rethink things.

Now on to today's bowls. I have Louisiana Tech winning, Tennessee helping the SEC by beating Illinois in Nashville, and USC looking good against TCU in San Antonio.

Playoff Quarterfinals predictions

So 2 "walk-off" victories turn my 3-0 bowl record into a 1-2 record yesterday. Anyway, on to what most of you guys are looking for: Quarterfinal predictions!

For tonight's Cotton Bowl, Miami's defense should be good. But as we saw the last time they played, that defensive effort won't mean s--t if they can't score. I see Ohio State finding enough offense to win.

Now for tomorrow's games. Oregon beats Texas Tech in the Orange Bowl, Georgia beats Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl, and as for the Rose Bowl... I see Alabama finding a way to beat Indiana. That's right! I got the sinking feeling that Indiana is going down tomorrow afternoon.

...Yeah. And after the losses by Georgia and Texas Tech, I think something has to be done to fix this.
Curt Cignetti: "God! You guys are pathetic! My team had the bye, and we just gave Alabama their biggest @$$-whooping in a long time! Just play better!"

Bowl predictions (January 2nd)

So what will happen in this last full day of bowl games? I have Texas State beating Rice, Wake Forest beating Mississippi State, and Arizona to outlast SMU in a close Holiday Bowl.
And for my upset special, I have Cincinnati edging out Navy in the Liberty Bowl.

You can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube. The bowl games will never matter again. It’s a consolation prize for 7-5 and 8-4 teams. Players now opt to jump in the portal seeking their next contract or they work on preparing for the NFL combine. This trend has been developing over many years culminating in where we are now. It’s only going to get worse as people clamor for 16 teams producing 15 total post season football games. It’s over.

No, not really, but the extra practices will be worth something.

I could seethese games going away entirely, when it would be nice if they could be somewhat regionalized for matchups. Attendance is likely declining across the board unless you get a regional matchup like Hawaii.

Like tonight’s matchup……why could Wake Forest and ECU play at a bowl game in North Carolina? Why couldn’t Navy have hosted Pitt at the Military Bowl in Annapolis?

Semifinals predictions

Just some quick predictions for the CFP semifinals. Today in the Fiesta Bowl, I see Ole Miss finding a way to stop Miami. And tomorrow, I finally jump on the Hoosiers bandwagon! Indiana should be able to silence Oregon again in the Peach Bowl.
