As the title suggests, it's time to try and forget this whole "coaching carousel" mess. It's time to start focusing on the actual postseason, where bowl games and REALLY big playoff games will flow like wine over the next month. You guys can chime in, too, as the 2nd-ever playoff gets going.

And as for the first bowl game of the season tomorrow? Give me Washington over Boise State in the L.A. Bowl.

Have to say while not a big bowl at all I like they have an early game with teams who are "real" teams.

Obviously glad my team gets a bye but sure is a long time between games now. Obviously would always take the bye over no bye as why risk a loss/injury but wouldn't mind a game to look forward to next week....especially with the stench still from our last game.

also hope a loss wakes up OSU but Indiana is for real. Seems like IU, OSU and UGA are the top 3 and maybe a big dropoff after them?

The first bowl game is actually one of the best matchups of bowl season IMO - Boise/Washington are 2 solid teams.
Now the smaller bowls are usually better than the big bowls in that the smaller programs are happier to be in bowls and have fewer opt outs and it feels like they’re actually playing for something, while the bigger non playoff bowls often have a ton of opt outs and unmotivated teams. Which is a shame as I’ve always liked the bowls - I think it’s cool that so many teams get the chance to finish on a high note.

All four teams with a bye lost in their first game last year.

I’m curious what happens this year. That’s a lot of time for each team to have off from December 6th to December 31/January 1. Especially when other teams played the weekend of the 28th or the 6th, and playing again this coming weekend.

Just like in MLB, there may be a case to make that the time off is not really beneficial at all.

If not mistaken some context is needed for that. First, if I remember correctly, 2 of those teams receiving byes would not get byes under the new format as they were ranked well below #4. Also, one team who did deserve a bye ended up facing the champ who crushed nearly everyone they faced.

Boise didn’t belong, but Oregon, Georgia and ASU did, the latter giving Texas just about all they could handle.

Again, it just bears watching. That was the narrative for a couple years in the expanded MLB playoffs, and I can definitely say as someone who witnessed an “open practice” for the Orioles in 2023, and us coming out flat against Texas, that was a real thing.

Other than Oregon the first round bye teams really shouldn’t have had a bye. That’s why they changed the rules this year.

Bowl predictions (Part 2- December 16th)

You know what? This bowl season, I sorta DON'T feel like deep-diving through every bowl. If a bowl game is very interesting, I might deep-dive, but for now it's just predictions from here on out.

Now for tonight's game: The "Salute to Veterans Bowl" between Jacksonville State and Troy. Now Goose Chowder is out for Troy due to injury, but the injury game bit the Gamecocks HARD; 3 of their WR's and 2 of their RB's are out today. So I have Troy winning 24-17.

Like most things college schedule wise, having 3 plus weeks off between games isnt ideal if you're looking for teams at peak performance.

well. there is a weekend to gain, that we just had.

there is no reason the army/navy game needs its own weekend. play this game the same weekend as the CCGs. everything could be moved up a week. This past weekend should have been round 1.

12/13 - Round 1
12/20 - Quarterfinals
12/27 - Semifinals
1/3 - championship game.

agree....though guessing they do want a round to take place with some games NY Day.
