This is where my son's high school team practiced and played their home games and where I currently coach in the same program. It was home to the ECHL Columbus Chill back in the day.

It seats 5500.

Alcohol—University Policy

No alcohol may be served on the ASU campuses or at the Kerr Cultural Center, unless it is served at a designated special event pursuant to the Arizona Board of Regents’ policy 5-108 with approval by the president. If a completed permit to serve alcohol is not on file with the ASU Police Department prior to the event, alcohol service will not be permitted. All research activities requiring the dosing of subjects with alcohol or other drugs are subject to the ASU Human Subjects Institutional Review Board.

It would be fucking hilarious is they would not be allowed to sell beer.

How many minor league markets average more than 5k a game? This is embarrassing. Relocate them already. What's the drawback...they want them to stay in the west?

Well you see we have a commissioner who a) have small man syndrome which leads to b) a huge ego and has extreme difficulty admitting that he's made a mistake.

I would wager that most, if not all major junior teams in Canada average above that. Let alone pros.

What I don't understand is how can players be okay with this considering the current CBA and the 50-50 HRR split? Surely moving the team to a market where attendance is strong would increase the HRR amount and thereby raise the salary cap which means more money for players.

Eh, most are in the 2000's per game, but keep in mind that a lot of Junior towns have fewer residents than most div 1 US colleges. Especially in the Q and the Dub.

But, using 2018-19 figures (Q W O), 13 CHL teams would average more than their max. Another 24 would be around or above the 3200 figure Elliotte mentioned, including most of the W.

Is there a component of the TV rights deal in the US that is based on presence in major markets? If so, probably that.

Although if they moved them to Houston, or Portland, or KC, or Milwaukee etc. I can't imagine that would affect that so...

Yeah, no idea.

C'mon guys. I know its "cool" to mock the Coyotes and Arizona hockey. Mostly because of old school ideas that they do not play in a "traditional market". But before everyone jumps on the bandwagon calling the team and relocation a failure - give them a chance to succeed.
