So, apparently Michel Therrien is the #1 guy right now? Guy Carboneau also mentioned in rumors.

I don't know that there'd be a problem in running Therrien's system for Kovy. Malkin and Crosby both hit 100+ points, so he'll be fine as long as he can learn to work with his team on the breakout.

Maybe, but Malkin and Crosby backchecked in his system. I just think with Kovalchuk's history of seeing his goalie once or twice a month it might not work well for him.

Therrien wanted the safe play from his superstars, don't take unnecessary chances. Thats what i think he would have difficulty with as well.

I've heard so many rumors the past 2 weeks that I'll believe it when I see it. Guy is a popular rumor, a week ago it was Mike Eaves. Only Lou knows.

Thing is kovy learned to backcheck last year.In fact truth be told kovy was far more productive in Lemaires more defensively oriented system than jmacs offensive system.

I have to admit I'm not 100% on what Therrien's style of coaching is. I know Penguins fans hated him but I'm wondering if it was a problem with the personnel not fitting his system rather than him being a bad coach. Still hope he's not the Devils coach.

I don't hate him at all. He's a great coach and one of the reasons for them making the Finals two years in a row. He gave the stars the freedom to score but held everyone accountable when a goal against would happen. He runs a really tight ship that would be perfect for a lot of the younger and/or defensive-minded clubs. Disco Dan just fit better with the personnel that Ray Shero brought in.

Its well known I have a hatred for Kovy, but he did start play defense a while after the coaching change, even played the PK and want too bad

Obviously i didn't see Kovalchuk play enough to know he gave a defensive effort. I was basing my opinion on past play. Hopefully he has turned the corner on the floating he showed before.

I think the Devils can do much better in their search for a coach then MT. A lot of people argue that he took the Pens to the finals in '08. I tend to think they made the finals in spite of him.
