Its nice to see teams like the Giants and Rays leading their respective leagues. They had to build their teams instead of trying to buy them like the disgusting Yankees and Dodgers, Padres, Red Sox etc.

I'd count the Astros among the teams like the Giants and Rays except they got caught cheating.

Small market teams like the Giants just can’t hang with the big market empires like the Padres. They need to find that other “thing” to be competitive.

Yeah baseballl is the one sport without a salary cap but they have still managed to set up a system that allows different sized markets to compete.
But the truth is every GM and scout is always on the lookout for talent they can "buy". It's just that the Dodgers and Yankees of the world spend more time shopping at the high class malls, whereas the Rays shop almost exclusively at Big Lots or Dollar Tree.
(20 years from now this will make no sense because there will be no more Malls)

Giants' payroll is $100M higher than the Rays. Giants are top 10 payroll and far closer to the Dodger and Yankees in spending than the Rays.

Other than that, good comparison.

OP never said they were. OP said they are to be respected for building their team, not buying it.

Doesn't have to be homegrown to be built. But a fanboy like yourself cannot be expected to see the problem through the eyes of an athlete like myself
I don't think you have a clue what you are talking about.

you can't even figure out what you are giving the Giants credit for here.

The Dodgers built a team, brought players through their system and paid to keep them around.

Bwah ha ha ha, Sherzer, Bauer, Turner, Betts, Hamels, Price, Pujols, Pollock, Duffy, any of those names ring a bell?

u mean like this :suds:

  • Who qualifies as homegrown? To be considered homegrown, a player must have been drafted by an organization or signed by it as an amateur free agent and subsequently developed in its minor league syste

so you are mad they brought in other talent over the last how many seasons?

how about their opening day roster...all homegrown.

I mean you want to tout the #2 team, the Astros for growing their own talent

but you don't want to recognize that the Dodgers have grown more talent then the Astros.

they just have cash to go along with it.

All after-thoughts on their respective teams that the Giants were astute enough to grab off the scrap heap. Even more credit to the Giants.

so you are giving them credit for being thrifty instead of spending the big bucks on the expensive talent.

but yet they are top 10 in payroll...
