So, my parents just got back from traveling through Scandanavia and Russia. They told me about their travels today and had this little hockey nugget...

First off, they took and wore their Ovechkin jerseys in St. Petersburg and got a picture in front of Catherine's Palace with them on. I'll post the pic if I have a chance, but I haven't even seen it yet. They said they got a lot of looks wearing the jerseys, a lot of people gave them a "yeah" or a thumbs up, and one guy asked my dad "how much?" (can't help but think of Borat there) They said it was pretty fun and they were glad they did it.

So, they arrived back in middle of the day today. They are at Dulles Airport and were talking about Russia and Ovechkin when someone interrupted them and said "i'm sorry, are you talking about Ovechkin? He's right around the corner." Apparently he was just leaning on a wall, nobody appeared to notice who he was, and my dad walked over and said "Hey OV" and talked to him a little about Russia. He apparently asked my dad a few questions about where they went and how they liked it. Sounds like he was pretty cool.

So, anyway. That's it. I thought it was pretty random they'd meet him on the same trip as their little Ovechkin jersey stunt.

Right on, Eloco. Nice to see something other than the usual indifferent (at best) pro athlete encounter.

My dad mentioned he was surprised by how big he was, not in the fatty way though. "Like a brick" was his expression I believe.

That is a great story, and I would love to do a trip like that at some point in my life. And that is the one thing I've noticed about every hockey player I've met, is their chest and torsos are like tree trunks, these guys are monsters.

Awesome!

Dulles is a crazy place. I often wonder how many famous people go unnoticed there because of how crazy it is.

I *swore* I saw Mr Bean wandering there once. I discounted it as no one else noticed him.

I just remembered that the last time an Eloco family member ran into a professional athlete at an airport, a championship was had.

Back in 1991, a young Eloco was flying by himself for the first time. On the plane, I thought I spotted Redskins' QB Mark Rypien sitting in the back, but was unsure. I deplaned at Dulles and went to the baggage carousel (that's carousle for our Canadian friends). When a bag of golf clubs went by on the carousel with "Mark Rypien" written on it, I was sure. I went up and talked to him, got his autograph and wished him luck. The Skins went on to win the Super Bowl that year.

Could another chance encounter at Dulles mean the Caps are destined for greatness this season? I have only one thing to add...
