LOL, so a difference of 2 years and $2M has the league undecided? I knew the people that ran this league were idiots, but wow this is a new low. The worst thing the arbiter could have done was to rule in favor of the NHL allowing this shit to continue.

Yet there appears to be very little concern about another $30 million+ being flushed away in the Arizona desert...

i think the contract while as long as it is, puts them in a bad spot.

mainly because the stucture is as good if not better than hossa's and lou's deals. and it ends at the same age.

I AM NOT a fan of these type of deals. but the CBA does mention precedence. those deals set a precendent.

and i do think donald fehr is now playing a role in this. or at least, he is causing the NHL to work with caution.

however through these 5 days i've thought to myself that as it took like longer it just makes it seem like the NHL is looking for a way to reject it.

Remember, luongo and pronger's deals haven't officially started yet, so technically there is no precedent for this. If this were to have occurred next year, after lu and pronger played a year on their extensions, then there would be presedents.

Those two contracts are still under "investigation" i think that is just so they can't use them as presidents in this matter.

I think they can be. Even though they haven't started the league did approve those contracts initally. Also Hossa's contract has started, with his team winning the Stanley Cup no less, so there's another one. Of course the league might nullify his contract wouldn't surprise me with these idiots. However, that's something I couldn't see an arbiter holding up as the NHLPA would most assuredly grieve it if the NHL voids Hossa's contract. But that's another issue.

my real qualm with the league is this.
you made your bed a while ago with these kinds of deals. and while people may not like the lenght. the structure (if what we've seen is true) is better than previously approved ones.
you made your bed. now sleep in it.

don't think for a second the nhl isn't talking about if they reject it and have to go to arbitration again they risk losing all the power they just gained.

Whatever happened to Kovy signing with the KHL if this situation wasn't resolved in 48 hours? (statement made by Kovy's agent last Friday)

I am glad they are still trying to work it out. This delay says to me that the NHL was going to reject the deal as written, but it is getting close enough to something they can live with.
See both sides can ignore the CBA if they just agree to ignore it.

I thought that was Kovalchuk's Russian agent, who has noting to do with these negotiations.
just waving the 'remember me' flag.

Yeah, although as Morozov said in the thread that MM213 posted, Kovy wants to play in the NHL...
