Was supposed to be a week after the CBA was signed. NFL trying to make it in a few days. Why? They are stunned at the number of opt outs.

The shit show continues.

They need to leave it be, changing it now makes them look like bigger assholes than we already know them to be.

This season is going to be a complete disaster. They need to go with a shortened schedule (maybe 10 games) and expanded playoffs in a bubble (if that sort of thing is possible). If they think it's business as usual there's going to be quite a few forfeits and players saying "fuck it, this isn't worth it" as the season goes on.

Then they lose out on the Opt Out money, and don't gain a year to free agency.

i was under the impression that they still wouldn't be able to accrue a year on their contracts, even if they opted out before the deadline

Should start the season November 5.

Chiefs guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif announced (via Twitter) that he will opt out of the upcoming season. Per the terms of the league’s agreement with the NFLPA, his decision is irrevocable.

Duvernay-Tardif was set to play on the five-year, $42.36MM extension he inked with the Chiefs following the 2016 season. Instead, his contract will toll, meaning that his deal will resume in 2021 and now extend through the 2022 season. This year, the Chiefs will undoubtedly miss having him up front. He’s been the club’s starter at right guard for the past five seasons, save for an injury-marred 2018.

if u opt with reason u get 350 grand if not 150 and its just an advance on next years salary:suds:

OK, We or at least I have tried to figure out how the opt out fully works.

Players who opt out for a Medical High Risk reason do accure a year all others do not.

This explains the options , it also explains what money besides the Opt Out money the do or not get.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.si...nfl-opt-out-options-and-the-salary-cap-impact

I found this interesting

As is the case with voluntary opt-outs, if a player receives a new diagnosis of any of the 15 conditions covered by the “medically high risk” category after the deadline passes, he can seek to opt-out.

Bad planning by the league.

10 game season starting Nov

6 division games
4 games vs your intraconfere opponents

8 playoff teams in each conference

Set up 4 hub city bubbles

Most guys would only be away from their family 3 months or so and get paid millions to do it

Get the shit fogured out because baseball didnt and theyre about a week away from the season being over

If all the uninflected players would start taking chloroquine, everything would be fine.

SPN's Adam Schefter reports the official deadline for players to opt out of the NFL season is Thursday at 4 p.m. EST.
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero adds that there may be a separate deadline for players with health risks. Regardless, it's a quick turnaround for players who were hoping to have more time around facilities before making their decision, but it will give coaching staffs and general managers more time to figure out depth charts in a shortened training camp. There have been around 40 players who have already opted out, and there certainly will be more announcements over the next three days. Rotoworld's John Daigle is tracking all of the transactions in his Opt Out Tracker on the site.

The deadline for NFL teams to promote practice squad players to the game day roster has been extended to 90 minutes before kickoff.
Teams usually have until 4 p.m. the day before a game to move a practice squad player onto the roster, but with the potential for players testing positive for COVID-19 the night before or the day of a game, the league and NFLPA decided to extend the window for practice squad activations. The change will create total chaos for fantasy managers as teams scramble to make last second moves when players test positive for the virus in the hours before kickoff. Anyone who can't monitor their starting lineup and waiver wire options on Sunday mornings will be at a massive disadvantage in 2020.
