The league does seem to be excessively heavy handed on such issues. At the same time, if I were Lynch's coach, I don't think I'd be too enthused about my RB wearing unusually heavy cleats.

If any company had a set of rules in place & the employee refused to abide by such rules. You think the company would say, ok I don't want to fight with you, do what you want. No.
Do I get some of the rules the NFL has. No I don't, but the rules are the rules.

Remember back in the 70's L.C. Greenwood would get fined every week for wearing his non approved color shoes.

So in Lynch's case. What do you do when the punishment doesn't deter the individual? You up the punishment.
