Just to let everyone know, the winner of the year-to-date will need the highest percentage, not the most games picked correctly. However, you can't miss more than 3 weeks. There are several teams that have already missed 2, but I am still adding them to this results summary bc technically they can still win. But after 3 weeks of missing, I will no longer put them on the yearly total.

You may also see many teams tied with the same percentage, but not in order of most correctly picked. Doesn't mean the other team is ahead of you, I just didn't want to sort them out. So here are the results:

rmilia 21-11 .656

However, you can't miss more than 3 weeks.

The above sentence states that people can't miss MORE than 3 weeks...

There are several teams that have already missed 2, but I am still adding them to this results summary bc technically they can still win. But after 3 weeks of missing, I will no longer put them on the yearly total.

...but these later two sentences suggest that people can't miss 3 weeks OR MORE.

So, which is it?

Are people eliminated after...

- missing more than 3 weeks OR

- missing 3 weeks or more?

Sorry. Meant to say can't miss 3 weeks or more. However, they can still pick to try and win the weekly prize.

Wait...so the leader could theoretically stop at the final 3 weeks to protect his percentage and still win this thing?

Yes, but presumably, then even if you got all 6 games right, you wouldn't be scored 6/6 (100%), but instead be scored 6/15 (assuming 15 games that week, with 1 pair of teams on a bye), which would be a terrible percentage.

I guess I should've made clear cut rules. Didn't think it's was gonna be that hard to understand. The guys that do the MLB pickems pick every game, whether they're winning or not. It shouldn't be that tough just to pick 16 or so games each week.

I'll come up with a set of rules and post them by tomorrow morning. If anyone doesn't like them, they don't need to play. This was supposed to be for fun and a lil vcash on the side.

That sounds all right. There'd still be a race in that if the leader stops after the 15th week, the players just behind him could still attempt to and potentially overtake him with high percentage results in weeks 16 and 17.

And it would even kind of mimic real life, in how teams who have already guaranteed a playoff berth may rest starters in the last couple of weeks, which trades off the chance to protect them from injury with the risk of lower seeding from losing their games.

SteelersPride and wildturkey do make points that raise valid issues.

Why not just score by most games picked correctly instead of highest percentage?

That way, people are actually incentivized to play as much as possible every week. Yes, it hurts if you miss a week, but you shouldn't be missing weeks.

Highest percentage just leads to selective play to maximize percentage -- it'd be like if pro teams could say, hey, we're scheduled to play a tough team this week, so we'll just pass this week.

Most games correct seems to be a better idea than highest percentage.

When I started this, I figured it would be like the MLB pickems where every player continues to pick each and every day. If there are gonna be guys that only pick a handful of games just to keep their potential correct percentage up, then I guess I'll haveto go with most correctly picked games. That way there won't be any sandbaggers.

So, the yearly winner will need to have the most games correctly picked. If at the end of the year there is a tie, I will pick one game from the first round of playoffs and have any teams tied for most wins pick a tiebreaker score from that chosen game.

If you miss atleast 3 weeks, you're out of the yearly running. A player shouldn't miss about 20% of the season and be eligible in my eyes. There are a number of teams on that bubble right now. So after this upcoming week, the number of teams in the running will be lessened for sure.

Sorry if any of the original rules confused anyone. Thanks for bringing the issues to light. If you have any other questions please PM me, I don't wanna clutter up this YTD results thread any more than it is.

Everyone that has a number in a parentheses means that's how many weeks they have missed. Per the rules, if you miss at least 3 weeks you're out of the yearly running. You can still compete each week to try and win the weekly contest. I have updated the standings and took out all of the teams that have missed at least 3 weeks.

Thanks for keeping up with all of the scoring, Micro. Seems to me that that is no trivial task. Wouldn't it be easier and faster for you to score the picks if everyone were to simply post in the order that you list the games the one team they are choosing against the spread? You could then just copy and paste each person's list into a spreadsheet coded to count the number of correct picks. Just a suggestion aimed to perhaps make life a little easier.

It's really not that hard. Especially now that many teams are exempt bc of missing 3 weeks.
