On October 1, 2020 if an NFL player tested positive for Covid-19 he was required to sit out at least 14 days in quarantine.
On October 10, 2020 The NFL changed the rule that a player who tested positive could return after testing negative twice in 72 hours.
On October 12, 2020 that was changed to two negative tests in over 48 hours.

On October 1, 2020, any player who had direct or incidental contact with a positive player was required to sit out practice and could not play in that week's game.
On October 12, 2020 any player who had direct or indirect contact with a positive player was required to test negative twice over a three day perios

On October 16, 2020 the NFL announced that any player who had direct or indirect contact with a positive player was exempt from multiple testing and only had to be negative on the pregame test on Saturday before the game.

Just to reassure the public. The NFL is creating strict protocol to protect players, coaches and staff as well as NFL families.

The fact that the strict protocols that were in place on 10/1/2020 have been trashed is just one more piece of evidence that the NFL is in panic mode because without question, this pandemic is not going away and with eleven more games left, it is anticipated that more players, especially those in high risk states will test positive. If another team has a multiple player outbreak like the Titans, the season will have to be extended into March of 2021 in order to reschedule and get all team games completed. Already players are expressing dissatisfaction with the rule changes and the NFLPA is attempting to stay at arm's length.

They will extend the season till March if they need to. I doubt that will be necessary though. Certainly Pro Bowl week will be use for extra games. And I could see them push the Super Bowl out a week which would be fine since it would be President's Day weekend which, IMO, would be better anyway since most of us have off on President's Day.

It seems the NFL is no better than any of our endless layers of govermment in figuring this out, getting it right, or even being consistent from week to week.

On the other hand, they all seem to be united on a common goal of playing football. Imagine what a cluster fuck this would be if half the players were swooning with admiration for Goodell while the other half were trying to throw him out.

Exactly and if they have to so be it better than nothing! We all had to know that they would adjust things on the fly but again better this than canceling football like some morons were spewing in the spring. This is life for the time being so adapt and move on. If you are scared stay home! Sorry to be blunt but we are all adults including the players and we are all given a choice and smart enough to decide what is best for ourselves. I don't need some politician to tell me what to do unless the ICU's are filling up...

good decisions. don't completely destroy the season for a virus that is not a threat to young men in good shape.

I'm thankful for the 5 weeks in the books, and hope they continue to do all they can to get this season in.

So many Debbie Downers before the season. This country needs NFL football

I haven't seen goalposts moved this much since the Carson Wentz debates
