While I can see why we might want to make this reviewable (Saints game is an obvious example) What I dont think people are thinking about. Is how inconsistent Refs call that penalty. If you want to go off the letter of the rule. Almost every play is a penalty. If you want to be realistic. A lot of the calls shouldnt be calls. So once they open this pandora's box, there is gonna be reason to bitch every game as there will still be zero consistency on the call & the one thing worse than a missed call or bad call, is getting the call wrong using Instant replay. Now not only did they just make a game even longer, but they released all the black helicopters for the conspiracy theorist. Literally for every game.
The one thing I'll say is that not all penalties are equal. For instance, Dee Ford lining up 4 inches offsides had no merit on that play, as he didn't even get to Brady or come close. A holding call on a play where the ball carrier is 20+ yards away is in that same category. However, PI can dramatically change the outcome of a game in certain situations.

Read about that a couple of weeks ago. The spot foul for PI on long passes, the ones that cost 40-50 yards, should be reviewable. Let the guys fight for the ball, within the rules. And cap that fucker at 15 yards.

Been saying to cap it to 15 yards (and auto 1st) for over a decade. It's absolutely ridiculous that there's a '50' yard penalty in the NFL - which refs have shown they can screw up. And I can't blame the ref for that. 8 refs, 22 players, hands everywhere pushing/shoving/hitting, guys running 4.4 times down the field, etc. Really NFL? I understand you can't review EVERY play, but limit the 'damage' of defensive pass interference. What about OPI? If there's offensive pass interference 50 yards down the field, the offense gets marched back 50 yards since it could've been an INT? Whatever.

The NFL will probably never change it. Why? Because big PI calls result in a team likely able to score... and OMG we must have scoring in the NFL to make all the fans happy because scoring is cool and edgy and defense is boring! That's more a knock at stupid fans than anything else.

This will only make the game longer and more and more people pissed off

it won't bother me. as it is, there is only something like 7 minutes of actual football being played in the 3 hour span. I don't care if they take an extra 5 minutes to try and fix something if it was wrong.

i mean, shit, i've already invested 3 hours of my life to watch 7 minutes of action. i'll sit an extra 5 minutes to hopefully not feel ripped off that someone got screwed and the game was meaningless.

WINNER:

The worst things that ever happened to the NFL are, Instant Replay, Hi Def TV, Reviewed Calls and Slow Motion replay.

I guess we can add Giant ass TVs in the Stadium to that too

Welcome to football ding dong.
They're not all equal and that's why some are assessed at 5, 10, 15 or the spot. Forget the rest of your hyperbole.

No I put ointment on your butthurt. You should be thanking me instead of face palming me CPT Hyperbole.

Take it easy Skippy. We know you're all giddy that your team may go above .500 this year. But I'm not the one whinning about rules. So is 5" offsides a penalty? 6"? What if he was a half step closer? Especially after the official had already warned his dumb ass.

Dude, you are so far off the mark, it's comical. Nice attempt to take a jab at my fandom of the Browns that has literally nothing at all to do with this conversation.

I've given fans of the Browns props many times on this board. Not sure how most of you did it?

Again your anticipated giddiness has made you a drama queen. Look just go easy on the overly dramatic hyperbole. Leave that shit to the bitches.

Are you done trying to stir up drama out of nothing? I wasn't even talking to you, yet you get your panties in a bunch because I bring up a valid point. Good lord, get over it already.

Who's panties are in a bunch here?
More with the drama from you.
Valid point my ass. It was total, over the top hyperbole. Give it a rest diva.

Again, I wasn't talking to you. You're free to leave this conversation you were never a part of whenever you're ready to cool off already. It's clear you're not smart enough to even remotely understand what either of us were talking about.

Keep making an ass of yourself. You appear to be the only one agitated.
This is the general board. Go PM someone if you can't take being ridiculed for spouting stupid shit.

So is 5" enough to make the call?
6"? How about almost 1/2 his body? He didn't get close because the RB double teammed him. As well as Brady errantly getting rid of the ball so quick. Why don't you answer the question 5" ok? 6" not ok?
New angle of Dee Ford's offsides penalty confirms the official's call

Good post. Agree with most. Limit the damage of ridiculous penalties. No one is saying to review every pass-interference play. Just the obscene ones that move the ball 40+ yards. Definitely cap at 15 yards max, but not automatic first down. That would have teams looking for a spot call on 3 and +15 yards. Sort of defeats the purpose.

Also, limit the amount of PI reviews per game, by refs or coach challenges. If wrong, coach loses a down. If refs screw it up, fine them with the alien abduction of their first born.
