So, It seems that Lou is done picking up new players for a bit so its time to plan out our potential lineups.

I'm hoping for something like:

Elias - Zajac - Ryder
Top line with skill on the wings and grinder/board player at center to dig out those pucks and give them to the scorers. I really want to see Elias with Ryder because I think he's the best player to feed Ryder for his excellent shot. Kovy is good but Elias is an elite playmaker.

Henrique - Josefson - Kovalchuk
Kovalchuk has gotten strong enough at Defense that he can help when the young players have some failings. Henrique and Josefson are both 2-way players though so it will not be as much of a hindrance. Offensively I want Kovy to play with very hungry young players that will be playing for a job. They will hopefully provide enough energy to keep up with Kovy and opponents focus on Kovy will ease the pressure on the other guys to succeed.

Zubrus - Loktionov - Clowe
I want to see Zubrus and Clowe play on the same line because they will be hell to defend along the boards and behind the net. Loktionov is our most talented offensive center and I'm hoping he can be the needed playmaker on the line and take advantage of the extra space those guys will create. It will be a large jump in responsibility for him but he earned it with his play last year.

Olesz - Carter - Bernier
I don't like Gionta's failing on faceoffs and need to play center. I'd much rather have Carter play center. It helps that Olesz and Bernier are decent 3rd liners playing on the 4th line. Overall I think its a very strong 4th line compared to other teams.

Extra: Gionta, Barch
Put Barch in if they play goon teams. Gionta can fill in as the #1 injury replacement on the 4th line and carter can move to the wing to replace whoever went down.

So, let's try this again.

I kinda like a combination of Loko with one of our smaller wingers, whoever makes it out of Tedenby/Boucher. I think he could possibly be the center that Teds has needs but I think Loko will likely be on a scoring line.

Elias-Truth-Ryder
Loko-Zajac-Jagr
Zubs-JJ-Clowe
Carter-Gio-Bernier

I would like to add some speed to that lineup, not sure if those are the best line combinations, but I also like an Elias-Henrique-

Loko said he can't do wing. Jagr on second line does look good

If that's the case either swap him with Henrique and let Henrique play wing, or Loko gets dropped to the 3rd line. The problem is adding Clowe or Zubs to the top 2 lines doesn't leave us with a ton of speed on our scoring lines. Elias and as far as I can tell Ryder can still skate pretty well, Jagr doesn't really have wheels anymore, Henrique is the only one with real solid speed.

Hmm, I'm not a Devils fan, but if I were to guess...

L1: Elias - Zajac - Jagr
L2: Zubrus - Henrique - Ryder
L3: Sullivan - Gionta - Clowe
L4: Carter - Josefson - Bernier

D1: Greene - Salvador
D2: Zidlicky - Volchenkov
D3: Larsson - Harrold

G1: Brodeur
G2: Schneider

I'd probably go with

Elias-Zajac-Jagr
Truth-Loki-Ryder
Zubs-JJ-Clowe
Gio-Carter-Bernier

Unless someone like Boucher goes nuts in camp or Matteau looks like he belongs anyhow.

Who knows, maybe Clowe steps up and can be a 2nd line winger. Jagr certainly gives us more options.

Well The first post was done the day before Kovy quit so I guess I have to redo the lineups.

Zubrus - Zajac - Jagr (JayZs line?)
Elias - Loktionov - Ryder
Henrique - Josefson - Clowe
Olesz - Carter - Bernier (Ex-Panthers line)

Ex: Gionta, Barch (is he still on the team?)

Realizing that we don't have a true 1st line. Instead we have two 2nd lines.

No matter what the combinations, guys like Ryder, Clowe, Jagr, Zubrus, etc are all at best 2nd liners in today's NHL. You can argue Elias or Zajac on first line, but to me they are more 2nd line material.

I was kind of thinking that as well. 3 guys that make the difference this year are the centers, Zajac, Truth and Loko. I think those guys have the highest ceiling and are the most capable of being first liners at this point. Whether or not they play to their capabilities and take it to the next level is another question.

The only line I would not break up, at least to start, is Carter, Gionta, and Bernier.
That line was the heart for most of the year and the playoffs before that.

Most games last year it was the only line with a pulse.

Carter-Gionta-Bernier should never be touched lol... not even Jagr can get in that lineup!

seriously they've been our "top" line since the first rd two seasons ago....
