Week 14 - Seahawks at 49ers would be a fantastic prime time move.

So what does this mean exactly?

For the 2 49ers games, my guess is that FOX plans to make both of those games their Game of the Week, so they will still mostly be broadcast nation wide. Some markets will more than likely show their local team, but everyone else will probably show the 49ers game.

I doubt FOX would go through the trouble to protect those games if they weren't planning to make the most amount of money off of them by making them their #1 matchup and raking in all of the advertisement money.

So, it is good news for people who don't live in the guaranteed 49ers broadcast region as long as they don't also live in a region where a local team is playing at the same time. For the SF @ NO game the only other late game for FOX is MIN @ SEA, so everyone else gets the 9er game. For SEA @ SF, the other games are NYG @ SD and STL @ AZ, every other market gets the 49er game.

It just means that the games can not be moved from its original airing schedule on FOX and shifted into the primetime spot on Sunday Night Football on NBC. Each network starting in week 11 is allowed to choose 5 games in which they can protect from being moved off their network and onto NBC.

Since the Broncos and Patriots play in week 12, each network chose not to use one of their 5 picks for that week because everybody knows NBC is going to air that game for sure.

Well that sucks...so considering I live right in the middle of Vikings and Rams country, I'm probably going to get those crap games rather than watching the 49ers on Sunday night.

What do you mean by this? What is protection if NBC is going to air that for sure? Couldn't they prevent it by protection? Or was it already scheduled for SNF and can' be moved without NBC waiving it for something else?

That game was and is scheduled for Sunday Night Football. Since that game almost certainly will be the game of the week in most people's eyes given where the majority of people expect both teams to be record wise and the history between Manning and Brady, FOX and CBS chose not to use one of their 5 picks on any of their games because they are assuming, rightfully so most likely, that NBC is not going to flex out of the Broncos/Patriots game in favor of another one. It would almost certainly have been a waste of one of their 5 picks.

Thank you. I didn't know they could protect a game that was already SNF and thus not "theirs to keep." So, in this case they would be choosing not to use a protection pick to call dibbs/first on a waiting list that won't be open.

That Week 16 FLEX schedule just got really interesting.

Colts @ Chiefs is unprotected and NBC is scheduled to show Patriots @ Ravens. Unless the Ravens get their act together, that game seems less appealing to me than Colts @ Chiefs.

Bears at Vikings? They protected that game. That must be a bad week for fox.
