I have a 78 ford, crewcab, 351m400. Edelbrock intake and just installed a brand new 750cfm edelbrock carb. Started right up and ran as good as it ever has for about 10 min. Went to adjust the feul lean one side, flooded out died. It should be noted that i had flooding issues with the last 650 ctm carb, and was told it was old and needed to be replaced. I have adjusted the floats, added an electronic fuel pump, and a new regulator(set to 5.5 psi). I have done everything aside from swapping out springs and needles. Wait for a while, fire it up, runs beautifully until flooding out. Any help will be appreciated.

Fuck everyone who has a joke, not in the mood, i hate you.

Thank you to anyone who wants to help.

Check all fuel line for leaks. Sounds like you are losing the primary.

re-set the fuel/air screws …close both, then open them 1.5 turns. You'll need some diagnostic help to really tune the fuel/air mixture.

Auto choke of manual?

Electronic choke. Done that, three times.

i'm a weekend mechanic w/ a 78 GMC 4x4 Serria Grande…350, 194 heads, RV cam, Edelbrock shit up top and a 650 Ed carb as well.

that fucker has been in my 68 camaro, transferred to the GMC and has ran great for 15 years.

when i troubleshoot, it's a shot-n-beerback w/ reflection. always ends up being something minor.

chin up lil' soldier.

No carb expert.
Sounds like a the float level is too high, but you said you checked that.

If it's new out of the box and it started up and ran good, I'm thinking its something else other than the carb.

Question: How long does it take before you can restart your truck, and when you do, does it run fine for the same amount of time as before/ or more or less.

Might be the choke.
However, if it was doing it on the old carb and now doing it on the new carb, I'm wondering if it's "flooded" at all.

I think its a vacuum canister problem or a loose vacuum line. Two vacuum lines connect up font. One to distributer and one to emissions. If your truck doesn't have emissions make sure that one is plugged. Should have one timed and one full vacuum. Make sure they are not swapped.

The one on the right as your facing the carb(drivers side) is manifold(constant) vacuum and the port on the left(ported)vacuum is higher. Back in the day with points ignition Carbs were designed for the advane to run off Manifold vacuum, now with HEI the newer carbs suggest that you run advance off ported( no vacuum at idle) Vacuum for optimum performance.

What's happening now is the advance is being fed constant vacuum not only when you accelerate so the timing is being advanced from the get go...Make sure the hole on the back of the carb is plugged also( it happens) I know it's hard to forget but if not capped correctly it will create a vacuum leak.

So he's fucked up 2 completely good carbs.

I'd try a 3rd one.
It's sure to work.
