What are the Cardinals thinking. They have been red hot as sellers. Why rock the boat?
I wonder what they gave up? Adams is mediocre at best.

Nats have zero leverage with Harper

They can have Domingo German and Cerealboi's wife

Depth signing with playoff experience. A situational guy against Right Handers for the most part.

They didn't give up anything to get him. They're just paying his remaining salary of about $900k as far as I can tell

I read where they are thinking of moving Carpenter to third to play Adams at first. I think that is a bad idea. Carpenter has thrived at first this season. Why mess with it. Too bad they didn't get Murphy.

It's about time. That team has too much talent to play this badly and to have never made it past the first round. Time to tear it down and build from scratch. Biggest bunch of underachievers as a team I've seen in a while in MLB

They could have. They chose not to claim him. Which is just silly.

The Cardinals are trying to get the band back together...

It does give you the impression that the Cardinals are only halfway serious about winning a WS this year.

I mean Murphy doesn't help their infield defense, but if you're gonna move Carpenter back to 3B, you might as well go for the bigger bat, right?

I don't really see it as a fire sale. They've done without Murphy most of the season, and he's a defensive liability and he hasn't been really hitting like he used to either. And Ryan Zimmerman has been raking ever since he got off the DL, and they already had a defensive liability backup first baseman that can hit for power in Mark Reynolds. Having Reynolds and Adams both on the bench was a bit redundant.
