Let me throw this out there.
Many have expressed that the 2018 season was beyond expectations.
So I poked around the internet and found an article on the 11 Greatest Rookie Head Coaches.
The article was from 2012, but some of the names on the list are impressive:

Jim Harbaugh (2012) SF went 13-3.
John Madden (1969) OAK went 12-1-1.
John Harbaugh (2008) BAL went 11-5.
Barry Switzer (1994) DAL 12-4.
Bill Callahan (2002) OAK 11-5.
Jim Caldwell (2009) IND 14-2.
Red Miller (1977) DEN 12-2.
George Seifert (1989) SF 14-2.

Nagy pretty much falls right into that 11-14 win range.

I feel too he deserves to be above a guy like Seifert who inherited a Super Bowl team from the season prior.

Switzer, Callahan and Caldwell also inherited really good teams. Caldwell inherited a top 5 all-time QB. Callahan inherited a team that probably should have beat the 01 Pats the year prior. Switzer inherited all that talent on the 90's Cowboys.

Nagy inherited what was largely considered a big ass project when he took over.

Frank Reich also had a very good first season this year, though.

Honestly, the Bears had plenty of talent when Nagy took over, and it's a massive testament to how shitty Fox was. Not to take away anything from Nagy,, because I think he did a tremendous job, but there Bears had a great core in place, with a pussy coach.

The D did under Fox and it performed well in 17. The offense had a CFL WR corp and a raw rookie QB who went through growing pains. No one denies the system could have been waaaaaayyy better, but they were certainly much less talented than this team.

Dontrelle Inman had a pretty good year in Indy this year.

WR corps sucked bawls, but they could've done better than they did. The D could've done better too, if they weren't on the field for 75% of the game.

I'm just saying, the team was better than their record indicated.

Inman went for 28-304-3... not exactly good and he did that as a secondary option. Where as we were relying on him to be the #1 and take on #1 corners. That's brutal. Remember prior to Inman's arrival when we trotted out Tanner Gentry, Tre McBride as starters with Bellamy as our slot guy for a few games? Yeesh... Dion Sims was also our top TE after Miller went down, as Shaheen was mostly injured.

The team DEFINITELY lost some tight games that we would have won with Nagy, IMO. You're right. However, I think the offensive roster was a total train wreck outside of our two RB's. Trubisky in 2017 was also a huge leap away from being 2018 Trubisky.

To me it's an iconic debate.
Is it worse for a coach to run a talented group of players into the ground?
Or is it more noteworthy when a coach takes a rag-tag group of ne'er-do-wells and guides them to the playoffs?
^^^ Those are rhetorical.

Nagy took what was supposed to be a rebuilding year and convincingly took over the NFC North by sweeping the reigning division leader. Sure the defense was on the upside. But Nagy's offense was both aggressive and exciting above anything that Loggains, Gase or Trestman could put together in a combined highlight reel.

I think Gase did a very admirable OC job in 2015 and especially 2016. He was also OC for those offense's in Denver with Peyton. He's had success and I think he'll continue to. I'm a Gase fan

I wouldn't say plenty,but yes they had some...………

Trubisky was a work....Talented,but not enough to make it work.
Wrs……...horrible.
te…...meh
o-line...…...Leno,Massie,whitehair and Long were a good core.

def...……..Hicks,Goldman were very good,Leonard was talented but needed worked on,with a solid core for dbs...…….with an awesome d-coordinator in pklace.

So yeah,Nagy did inherit somewhat of a solid core, but I think we went over the top with the 2018s additions that Nagy and Pace put into place.....
