I took team Margin of Victory plus 5x their season win total minus 2x their SOS. This accounts for dominating performance yet doesnt discount simply winning the games you play AND it factors in the schedule you have played. Rankings are

1. Seattle( 222 )- 168 MOV, 60 pts for wins, -6 for SOS
2. Denver ( 217 )- 187 MOV, 60 pts for wins, -30 for SOS
3. San Fran ( 170 )- 131 MOV, 55 pts for wins, -16 for SOS
4. Carolina ( 169 )- 124 for MOV, 55 pts for wins, -10 for SOS
5. Kansas City ( 149 )- 128 for MOV, 55 pts for wins, -34 for SOS
6. New Orleans ( 133 )- 85 for MOV, 50 pts for wins, -2 for SOS
7. Cincinnati ( 126 )- 108 for MOV, 50 pts for wins, -32 for SOS
8. New England ( 123 )- 92 for MOV, 55 pts for wins, -24 for SOS
9. Arizona ( 104 )- 58 for MOV, 50 pts for wins, -4 for SOS
10. Indianapolis ( 73 )- 35 for MOV, 50 pts for wins, -12 for SOS

Next 2 out and ONLY 2 other teams in positive numbers are Philly at 45 points ( 58 MOV, 45 wins, -58 SOS ) and San Diego at 59 points ( 45 MOV, 40 pts for wins, -26 SOS)

Thanks guys. I actually did all 32 teams and I think its pretty dead on. If I get time tomorrow ill post all 32. Only change I may contemplate is reducing the factor on wins to 4x this making the max amount of pts possible 64, that would sync with the max amount of points lost via the sos.

just going to be that person rmilla, you should also include current streaks... this will allow your formula to update throughout the season..... if that is not your goal here then i am not sure what the point is... for example maybe if you want to change the wins to 4x instead of 5x include current win streak as the 1x...

this will make your formula better and more accurate, since there is a clear difference between a team like pittsburgh compared to a team like the lions...

Hmmm, not a bad thought mike. I like it. Of course how do we account for streaks that may be coming against bad teams? Or is that irrelevant since we are already considering sos... Ill for sure look at that though since it makes sense. May have to set a minimum number of games to qualify as a streak. Say 3??

I was thinking either a set amount of games(baseball always does 10 games- not sure if that works well in football) maybe football should be more like 6 games.

or how many games it took to get tour last 2 losses...
