So as one of the Kelly apologists, I am not immune to wanting a do over on certain aspects of this team. Not on DJAX as I think it was him or Maclin. Or Foles/Bradford as I believe Sanchez would have started over Foles. Or even Shady for Kiko even with both those guys injured we really don't know. It was a choice between Brandon Graham and Trent Cole and I think they made the right choice. At Guard, they got rid of guys that sucked and replaced them with other guys that suck. No loss there
The one I question is signing Demarco Murray and letting Maclin walk. I don't think they need Murray as they would have a good backfield with Mathews, Sproles and Polk. I am not generally in favor of paying a premium for that position.
They could have then went ahead and matched the offer for Maclin. Yeah its overpaying, but Maclin is the sort of guy you overpay. A true professional and a role model and proven in your system.
On the OL, I am in agreement that the FA market wasn't great. I thought Orlando Franklin may be a fit. He signed with San Diego and lasted all of two games before getting injured.
If they passed on Agholor, they could have drafted any of three OL in the first round, or even reached on Jake Fisher with the Oregon pedigree. Its worth noting however, that none of those players has played or played well. Arguably they would be no better off today with any of those guys starting. Of course they would likely be better off long term on the OL.
So while I would rather have seen them sign Maclin and draft a lineman, I doubt that they would be at anywhere other than 1-3 if they had.
