Hey MSG .... an off topic question for you . I know that you spend quite a bit of time in the political forums . I also know that you consider MAGA2024 to be a BOT (I agree). Just curious ... why is it allowed? Most forums requre a BOT to be registered as such. Especially if they are intended to mimic human behavior.

Let’s keep politics on this board to an absolute minimum. We lost Mays-Fan a couple years back because he wouldn’t let it be. The nation is too charged now in that context. I don’t want to bring it here.

In SF11704's defense, he may not know about sending direct messages on this forum and thought that this was the safest way to contact msgkings922. I didn't take his post as trying to stir up that conversation here.

That being said, I can see how it could easily spin out of control and bring in outsiders to post in another political thread. I understand your response and appreciate laying that rule down very quickly.

Sorry for all the confusion and concern ...
The post was NEVER intended to take on a political nature. That was why I actually posted it here rather than on a political forum board. I didn't care about a political position. Never thought about a message though ... my fault.

All of my career was spent in the IT arena (40+ years). I have had some exposure to BOTs and was curious as to how a BOT appeared in a forum such as Sportshoopla without some sort of vetting. Most forums try to vet BOTs before they are allowed to interact with the public. Some can be very helpful (search engine BOTs) while others can be very disruptive and difficult to control (those that mimic human behavior). I was just trying to understand how a BOT made it's way on to a forum of this type ....

I trust it wasn’t your intention. But talking about a user who is not specifically in OUR community that apparently posts almost entirely in the PF opens that door (I don’t go to the PF on this site, so I am assuming he is a PF poster… I never saw any of his posts).

I just wanted to make sure no derailment occurs. It is a minefield that should be avoided at all costs.

Exactly. I spend waaaaay too much time fighting the divisive idiots online as it is. This is my haven away from it.

Hey SF I really don't know why they let it happen, to be honest I don't see it as some big problem, it's not spamming the board any more than the human MAGAs and it's not violating the forum rules.

I think it's fascinating to be honest, and part of our modern world that will only get more prevalent, trying to suss out what is human online.

A mod might know more about the forum's rules on bots, I don't have a clue on that.

As it gets more prevalent, I may seriously consider just walking away from this forum. It seems really strange to argue with a bunch of computers (versus a bunch of strangers I've never met in real life). Granted, this forum is probably more likely to just collapse and disappear than have a bunch of bots on it but stranger things have happened.

The two SportsHoopla forums are small enough that bits are easy-ish to root out. Try dipping your toe into Reddit.

That is such a cesspool…

If the Giants forum gets overrun with bots we can all find another. I seriously doubt that happens though, don’t you?
