The funny thing about this to me anyways is all the 'control the zone' crap DIPoto's group has spouted from day one and the one guy I thought that was the poster boy for that was Span.

i thought span is good and loved seeing him play..i like him i think he is a good team guy
but with money concerns..and actually prob cruz on this as well.......i think they moved on

and will try to get even younger wherever..they need to acquire talent...prob ...trades

on another note if they dont trade pax ..but do a sd trade that i have said before
leake ramirez and leblanc..plus span now

This is what I was thinking. Putting Haniger in CF, Span in LF and Gamel in RF isn’t a terrible or terribly expensive outfield for a team trying to go young.

I am a fan of Span.. I think you hit the nail on the head here. He is a good fit for this team.

To me, it also shows that they are committed to putting Gordon back in CF and most likely will deal Segura around the winter meetings. Picking up the option is cheaper than just about any viable outfielder and a better option than dealing prospects for another outfielder.

The main issue is I dont see a better option then Span for this team whether it be thru FA or trade. And sure not at that price.

And yeah control the zone is clearly gone when the big offseason moves were Healy and Gordon who dont walk at all.

Again this is all to predictable in Mariners GM regime. They talk about all this stuff when they get here and then after a couple of years they completely change and go away from that because of the pressure to compete with a mediocre roster.
