I didn't see a thread created for this series yet, so I thought I'd start one. As bad as it was to see the M's get swept by the Angels when at least two out of the three games were winnable, it was great to see the team bounce back against the O's today with a blowout win. Obviously every win is important, but they really needed this win for a couple of reasons. Obviously they wanted to get the road trip off to a good start, but I really think they came out of that 5-game losing streak in April determined not to let things snowball on them. As much as it sucked to get swept at home to the last place team in the division, they stopped the bleeding with this game and gave themselves a chance to get back to being the team they were prior to the sweep. Recent M's teams would have let that kind of series put them into a tailspin. We've got a long way to go, of course, but this team doesn't look like the type to go into that type of freefall.
As for this game... the middle of the order looked great and the offense in general took some pressure off of a recently overworked bullpen. Getting Benoit back from the DL should help the bullpen situation and getting Zych and Furbush back can help even more. In the meantime, having the offense give the pitching staff as a whole a bit of a cushion to work with early and then continuing to add on as the game goes will help considerably and it's not something that they've been able to consistently do yet. We'll see if they can keep that going in Game 2.
