“We tried to trade for Luis at the trade deadline in 2016,” Dipoto said.

If you look back to 2016, that was Dipoto’s first full season as general manager of the Mariners, and Castillo was still a prospect in the Miami Marlins organization who had yet to make his MLB debut.

“The first conversation I ever had where his name came up, we were in trade discussions at that time with the Marlins,” Dipoto said. “And they were looking for Wade Miley, who was a left-handed starter with us at the time. And in return, we were trying to get Luis Castillo.”

The Mariners obviously didn’t land Castillo in 2016. He was instead part of a different deadline deal with the San Diego Padres, but he was returned to Miami after a player involved in the trade was injured. Castillo was then traded from Miami to the Reds that following offseason. Miley, meanwhile, was traded by Seattle to the Baltimore Orioles.

“We didn’t get him. They wound up trading him in a different direction and that was our loss,” Dipoto said.

At this point with Hanigers recent stats:

Last 15 games ( 61 at bats ): ZERO home runs - 19 K's - 4 walks and batting avg a paltry .164 with a laughable slugging of .230

What do we have to lose placing Kelenic in the line up in lieu of Mitch Haniger ? JK is a much better defender and has way better speed on the base paths. And with 61 at bats I believe Kelenic can go yard at least twice.

If Haniger does not start hitting soon, the Mariners are in a little trouble offensively moving forward.

I just got a look at the remaining schedule for us. Yeah, the last real test for us...

Let's make it memorable, and by that I don't necessarily mean another Royal Rumble.

What worries me is Trout, as you can already figure out. When you're talking about a player who's hit more HRs against us than against any other team, you can't help but think, "Aw crap, this is gonna be interesting."

Haniger out with vaginitis / a sore back. Expected back this series also. Physically back, contribution and production wise … i’m not buying into Haniger contributing consistently for the rest of the year including the playoffs. Spotty contribution yes of course, but he’s in a real hitting funk right now.

Our starting out field needs to be Rodriguez - Haggerty

Then depending upon righty or lefty pitcher third position: Haniger - Trammel - Wanker.

Geno said he didn't hear Wanker call for the ball, but after that first inning he didn't trust him to actually get to it. Then Wanker fails to get to another one and allows a double that later scores. Most would have caught it and ended the inning.

He's flat killing his team tonight.
