Have a lot of feee time, looking for some great movies to watch and looking for recommendations. In the past I had compiled a huge list of films I wanted to see, but got a new phone and my notes vanished. Love older films by Orson Welles and Alfred Hitchcock.

Love Film Noire: A Touch of Evil, and a modern day take on Film Noir which was China Town.

Any films regardless of the film’s age that anyone who is a fan of cinema should watch?

Any specific restrictions? All years? Foreign language?

Prefer english, black and white is fine. 12 Angry Men is up there for me.

Finally watching the extended cut of Hateful 8. Never got the chance to watch it before. So far so good.

Both Kick-Ass films. The 1st one is vastly superior though.

My favorite superhero of all time. It's nerdy as fuck, but at the same time it isn't. Despite the blood and violence and whatever, it doesn't try to take itself so seriously. Like, they know they're full of shit lol.

It's definitely complex. It knocks the comedy out the park. It should've been at least two more installments. Or at the very least a Hit-Girl sequel.

Saw the first one in theater. Have not seen the second.

Pretty broad request.

Some good black and white films (although I would think you've already seen these):

The Big Sleep
The Maltese Falcon
DoubleIndemnity
Dr Strangelove
The General

Have not, thanks. Dr. Strangelove is one I have been meaning to watch. It is a broad request, but I haven’t seen a ton of like 80’s films that I have no excuse for. But honestly just more into Vertigo and that kid of stuff.

Oh good then.

Dr Strangelove is a little dated because of the whole "End of the Cold War" thing but it's still a really great film.

My favorite Hitchcock films are:

North by Northwest
Rear Window
Psycho.

These are two great Humphrey Bogart Films.

The Big Sleep
The Maltese Falcon

Good film Noir with Fred MacMurray. Yes that Fred MacMurray.

DoubleIndemnity

A great satire on many things...

Dr Strangelove

Buster Keaton silent film but really good.

The General

Brick was a more modern day take on Film Noir.

There's so much good stuff out there, depending on the mood/genre you're feeling would dictate what I would recommend.

I'm not that useful on old movies but if we're talking about old movie essentials:

Seven Samurai
Casablanca
To Kill a Mockingbird
12 Angry Men
Philadelphia Story
Vertigo
Mary Poppins

if you're looking old school

Harvey (1950) was nice
What's Up Doc (1972), while annoying streisand could get it
Ikiru (1952) - if you work in an office (bureaucracy), it'll give you a goal, build a park before you die, mofo
Nights of Cabiria (1957) - Giulietta Masina , what can I say. beautiful and tragic. of course the last two require reading subtitles, but well worth it.

I could go on of course. Hell, my favorite movie of all time might be M (1931) Fitz Lang. You can see how much was spawned from it, such a great film, they only had enough money to use so much sound, but the moments they chose not to use the sounds... everything is soo good.
